    Default short board trucks

when i skateboaded the shorter stuff more often, i always wondered what the differences between all the trucks that were offered. i learned a lot about the characteristics about more longboard specific trucks from this forum, but still have no idea what separates all those other trucks out there. independent, krux, destructo, grind king, fury, royal, thunder, unit, venture...
are there any real differences between them.

i know tensors have that extra plastic piece, and grindkings come with an inverted kingpin. is there any other differences besides sizes and colors?

    Some of the major differences:

Height -- Mostly low and med, with some high/tall.

Pivot type -- Straight (Indy-style) and bent (Tracker-style).

At some point in skateboarding's past, turning went from necessity to an option. If you land your kickflip sketchy--like on the board's rail--you don't necessarily want the board to turn quickly. Manu's changed geometry to meet these new demands, and others followed suit.

I'm somewhat surprised at how poorly some "legacy" trucks/brands turn. Trucks that were once touted as the "best turning" actually pale in comparison to some modern, lesser-know brands.

I know that Unit Phantom 2's setup with Indy red bushing are some of the turniest trucks ever.
