Default Silverspace: the Trucks for the Olympic Opening

They appear(ed) to be a torsion truck:

    ..and are Produced by Silverspace.

...as pointed out below, they're NOT torsion trucks!

The Silverspace site is still under construction, and you can see (if you visit and click the enlargeables) that the trucks are pretty rough.

They're 110mm hangers, and " the diagonal sudden turn confers to skate an optimal stability and a control total is in plan that in slope to strong speeds." Now, that's BabelFish's translation--I'm sure the grammar is correct in Italian.

    Another looks at the 110's.

Here are some 168mm hanger versions, with the Limited Edition Abec Elevenini bushings...

Interesting how they placed the axle relative to the holes...it would really maximize the wheelsbase and prevent wheelbite on short but wide commuters with tip-mounted trucks. I bet we could make some pretty cool boards when designing with this truck in mind.

Sure do...very interesting!! Let's run that design through our mental operations and see how those hanger bushings are going to work with that pivot where it is.

Looks like a high angle (70+?) baseplate with a strong positive castor... Wonder if those hangers could be flipped...

the bushings dont seem to do a lot, just holding the hanger in place... right?

i have run the assignment through the imbedded program and it computes as such:

this design seems tuned to the close quarted modified surf stance employed by the euro (suisse and italia) minimal lean to turn functionality...

...high probably that this requires quick jerky motions and a lot of upper body movement. decks would be short and stiff. a harder durometer wheel may be employed on the rear assembly. front trucks would drive the turn and front foot would be very far forward. current software limitations exist...

    must upgrade...

Okay...let's riff on these a little

--as Staffan observed, the axle placement will move those wheels out to the ends of the board..nice for wheelbite reduction.

--the axle over the pivot like that will make it super turny

--Gullwing meets Radikal and Randal in an alley...9 months later

--What's the steering angle? Super, super turny! More than a 60, is it a 70?

--Check the slots in the baseplate...both mounting dimensions in one slot?

    Fun to wonder, eh?

actually there was a time that variflex made a vector truck that these closely resemble i think they came out in '79 (sorry i didn't want to mention the 80's). slots are only located at the rear truck bolts so this leads me to believe that it is stretched out but slotted to accommodate current old school hole pattern (add grain of salt here). quick turning but not super turny, it would be but for the geometry limitations. powerful high end pump but poor low end functionality.

another old truck which had a geometry more like this was the speedspring.

what is the black button below the hanger? its that simply some urethane or polyprop that prevents metal to metal contact? seems rather crude, but then again other than radikals and jimz most trucks are based of crude designs

CA, that "black button" is the bushing for the pivot point. Look at the large photo of the 95mm version and I think you can see it pretty well.

    Default variflex vectors

The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw those was "Variflex trucks"!
