    Default Help me with bushings?

hey guys, i've been reading up on bushing and such on here and still can't figure out how i should set up my trucks.

i've got randal 180s that are going on my new loaded pin (flex 3, i may switch it with a flex 4, thoughts on that?) once it gets here. i weigh a little under 130.

also, i was wondering exactly what sort of difference replacing the stock randal bushings will make.

    thanks in advance.

If you are only 130 lbs., you are going to need some soft bushings to get your carve on. Something like the blue bones or blue khiros.

If you want max stability for bombing high speed, you may want something a bit stiffer though. But if you get that whole Khiro kit, I bet you'll never use over half of them because they'll be too stiff for you.

I'm 145 and I don't even like the famous green stims in randals - just weren't soft enough for me (the yellows were ok though).

The stock yellow bushings that will come on your 180s will be fine. These are a medium duro (around 92a, I believe). If carving is your thing keep the hangars loose and ditch the bushing cups for flat washers.

Khiro barrel bushings top and bottom.
Super soft white front and soft blue back.

Longer kingpin for the tall bushings.
Grade 8 3/8" x 3" and flip it plus some
flat washers. Auto parts like Napa should
    have the bolts+washers.

    5-10 deg + wedge front.
    5-10 deg - wedge back.

i've tried the white khiro bushings but they made the trucks just feel way too unstable (on my gravity carve 46). just curious what will flipping the kingpin do? and i thought that randals were meant to be run without risers.

I'd suggest 2 Khiro blue barrels, top and bottom on the rear truck... and in front: Khrio blue barrel on the bottom, Khiro white barrel on top. The white Khiros have NO rebound, they're mushy and feel like your grandmother's tits, but they work okay as a top bushing with a decent one on bottom.

..........I have the opposite problem. I am over 250. I am setting up a 43" stiff board with Randal 180's and Gumballs. I already read about grade 8 bolts and flipping them. What bushings for me? I'm old and my sliding & bombing days are behind me. Just casual crusing and mellow downhills......... Thanks for all the input!

I also need help making my Randal 180s stiffer. I had just set up a Alva 40" board with Randals to use on a half pipe in my town. I'm a big dude( 240 lbs / 6'3" ). My stock trucks were to lose so I tighten them then found that the yellow bushing under the cupped washer was squezing out tto the side. What should I do or purchase to address this problem? eg. ( flat washer, longer bolt/ fliped, stiffer bushings. Can Mark sell me an upgrade pkg.?

Randals on ramps and in bowls scare me. Way too sketchy for me. That said, ditch the stock cup washers for flat washers, and get harder bushings. Something like the orange/med Indy bushings (replacement, NOT the OEM ones) will work well. Also, replace the stock kingpins with grade-8 bolts, as the stock ones are known to break. Go with 2.75" length so you can experiment with different bushings.

    i'm under 130 and use randals 180's
i put a harder bushing on the bottom and softer on the top. it really lets you dig into carves, nice and springy. i'm happy with that set-up.

    Thanks Mark
I like the size of the Randals and had a new set on hand. I had purchased the Alva ( All American ) board from you to set up as an all purpose board. I'm not an aggresive skater ( mostly downhill carving on longboards with Original trucks. Just started skating again after 25 years. I helped my neighbor build a half pipe that I tried yesterday and had fun.
I think what I'm going for is a large setup to be proportional to my size. What other truck setup ( 180 mm hanger ) would you suggest to fit with the 40" Alva other that the Randal 180s that would be good for a half pipe/pool.

not 180mm or 175 or whatever randals are but indy 169s and tracker darts 184 i think would do the trick
