What to do with messed up trucks?
Hi.
I've got a pair of "Crail speed trucks" here. And my board has been really swirving right. So after putting them here and there I came to the conclusion they are funked up.
I have no idea where though, holes, hangar, whatever.
I currently have two board one a flexy pintail and a short 80s pool board (30") which I want to learn slides on. I also have a pair of independent trucks.
Chances are I won't be able to return the messed up pair of Crails. It's been a while and god knows where the hell the reciept is.
So my question is what board should I put them on. The long carving one or the short one for sliding? Where it would be safer?
What would tollerate a truck going slightly more in one direction?
I don't even know how would they turn on slides on a short board.

No Mark, sorry to disappoint you. I bought them here in Montreal. And I mean they've been ridden and everything.

can you take some pictures of the trucks?
possibly kingpin, hanger and axels?
have you tried emailing crail?

Actually I got them from Motion, but by your attitude it sounds like I would be able to get help.

truck alignment
If you ever have a truck that turns to one side more or better then the other and you see no visible damage or alignment problem, 99% of the time the king pin is bent. Just a tiny almost non-visible (on the truck)tweakor bend to the king pin transmits to a much larger angle out by the wheels. Pop out the king pin and roll it on a very flat surface with the head of the bolt off the edge. If it is not perfectly straight, replace it with a new grade 8 bolt of the same size.

sometimes a truck turns one way because they are slightly turned when you mount them to your board. this has happened to me...
what i suggest is loosen your mountain hardware and turn the truck a bit in the opposite direction (not turn the hanger, turn the whole truck)

I tried shifting them and what not and seems that they turn more the more I tighten them.
I'll try to test the kingpin.

the more you tighten what?
all i am saying is loosen your 4 mountain bolts, and turn the baseplate a bit. if you are doing that and it is turning more, turn it the other direction

The more I tighten the kingpin. I've tried doing what you said before and it didn't work. The 4 bolts, I loosened them and then tried holding the truck straight.

Well i tried rolling thew kingpins. And they are both not perfectly round when you roll and look under them the tiny space between the pin and the table gets slightly narrower.
However on kingpin has a bit of a lift at the end you can see the end of the pin going a bit up, it's the end witht he threading on it. And the wobble is barelly noticable. I spend 5 minutes doing it, wasn't even sure.
But I can say with certainty that one rolls more smooth then the other.
If I replace them on by trucks should the direction of turning change? If the board was swirving right and I change the places of the kingpins from front to back is it supposed to swirve left more?

Ok I don't know if anyone is still here, but I switched the kingpins from fron to back and the board still swirves in the same direction. But I switched the hangers from front to back and the board goes left instead of right now.
What could that mean?

listen- don't loosen the bolts and hold the truck straight, turn it in the opposite direction that it wants to turn
-

Are you saying it doesn't turn straight when you roll it with no weight on it?
That is not a problem.
Does it turn the way you point it when you are skating?
If so it's pretty normal for a non racing truck.
Check your bushings. Make sure they are seated properly and are not
unevenly worn.
Even if the bushings look okay I'd suggest replacing them with some upgrades like bones hard cores or something. Replacing the kingpins
may or may not help.
Let us know how it turnns out!

do the following and give simple answers as to what happens:
-replace kingpin
-replace bushings
-are the baseplates flush with the board and pointing straight
-take the wheels off, do the axles appear bent?
-does the hanger appear bent
post pictures if all else fails
