Default Are Randal RII's All Good Stock?

I'm building up a board and after heaps of reading it seems Randal RII 150s are what I'm after. Only thing is I've read a few times the bushings etc should be upgraded on them. Is this an issue for newbies like myself or just people trying to get that little bit extra out of their gear?

    Cheers

yes, the first thing you want to do is get rid of the metal cup washers on either side of the bearings, these can cut and prevent full compression of the bushing. if you do not have a replacement available at the moment you can flip the top so the cup is facing up, be sure to replace both top and bottom as soon as you can with flat washers.

Some people like the stock randal bushings but most people are not a fan, good replacements are the bones hardcore bushings and khiro inserts

The kingpin can also be flipped so the side with the nut is facing upward taking stress away from its weak point. You can also go a step more and replace it with a grade 8 bolt

the other thing i can recommend with them, is that you buy them in person, rather then mail ordering them. by buying them yourself, you can check them out to make sure that they are not misdrilled, that way your not dissapointed when you get them

I'm gonna get a new kingpin when I order the trucks, but I can't work out how long it should be? I've looked everywhere. The kingpin range is from 2" - 3"...

Cheers. Getting new washers too but the bones bushings cost a bit.

The stock randal kingpin is 2.5" I think, but Mile High Mark recommends 2.75 or 3 inch bolts so you can use a wider variety of bushings, including stims, jimz bushings and radikal bushings as well as the ability to use two barrel bushings per truck which some people ssay is better.

Stock Randal 180/150 kingpins are very close to 2.5". If you want to experiment with different height bushings, 2.75" is a better choice, and 3" is recommended for very tall top bushings.
