    Default Insect Big Bug Trucks

Just ordered a BB and I'm thinking of trucks for it. Originally was going to go with Holeys but now I'm thinking going with traditional trucks. Specifically thinking of Tracker RT-S/X in 139mm since the board isn't really that wide (8.75") and I'm using Gumballs with it.

The board is going to be used as a all-arounder. Mostly cruising and bombing around town. Agility is more of a priority than stablility.

    Thoughts?

The 139 RT-X/S would be good, but also consider the 149mm RT-S/X combo. If 150mm trucks will work, the Orion SP's are fantastic.

Hmm... I was going to go with Holey's and Gumballs on my Big Bug. This makes me slightly worried. Why do you think they will be too wide. From my reading the Holeys are 175mm, the Gumball is 53mm wide and is offset (roughly 45mm). So that's 220mm and Big Bug is 222mm. So it would be just about lined up, right? I'm more worried about wheelbite than width.

Well since I already have all the stuff I might as well just try it when the Big Bug comes in.

don't worry about the width of the truck....but the leverage. big bug do not have much leverage over trucks....so don't go getting 180 seismic or exkate 201's. if you go for 180mm ish trucks, make sure you are using bushings...soft ones! but if i had a big bug back in my quiver, it would be with trucks 150mm or less and i would make sure the trucks did not require effort to turn

    That's my thought too.

As far 139's go I was under the impression that you couldn't get 149's in the X. 149's would be optimal I'm thinking.

I'm just now setting up a Dragonfly, which is admittedly 8" shorter (and I drilled my wheelbase to 26"), but I decided to go with the Tacker rt-x/s combo. I just mounted them -- put a wedged 129mm rt-x in front & a slightly de-wedged 139mm rt-s in back (not in the rear -- never stick one of those in your rear). And the widths seems like they'll be good for that size of board (haven't ridden it yet -- snowy here + I'm still waiting on wheels). So given the Big Bug's extra size, I'd think a 149 or 150 truck size would work ideally for that deck -- Tracker, RII, or Mark's Orion suggestion (not familliar with thoe myself) should do the job nicely.

wheel bite is definately a huge issue for these decks. Look at atleast half inch (possibly more) if you want to run those gumballs. I was running 3/8s inch worth of risers under 180 seismics on 65mm noskools and was still getting wheelbite when trying to pump. When i put 77mm strykers on, they almost touched the board without any risers. Just something to think about.

Hmmm. Interesting. Actually something I hadn't taken into account. I'm certainly not disputing you since you're riding it but Steve even sets these up complete with Gummies and Seismics. They certainly look like they're raised but not excessively.

Just ordered the 149's from MHS today (geeze Mark didn't even see them before. BTW you have a error on the 149mm RT-X. The description says RT-S) and plan on 1/2" riser. I'm not looking forward to possible going higher.

Sadly it is true that if you want to run a loose truck or your trucks loose the Bug bites easily especially with gummies. Think risers.

I have two soft Khiro wedges up front & a 1/4" shock pad + hard Khiro wedge riser + 1/8" shock in back on my Dragonfly and I'm ran it today with Gumballs w/lose trucks & no wheelbite. Similar riser set-up to what I use on a slalom board -- works nicely, board is crazy turny.
