    Default Extremely stripped nuts

I want to use an old set of Indy's I have baseplates for a new set of 215's I got coming. So, when I pulled them out yesterday to take the hangers off, I noticed a few things. I must of bombed a hill before these trucks went into their looong hibernation, because both of them are cranked down like crazy. And the nuts are extemely stripped. On top of that, since they've been sitting for so long, it looks like the washer pitted and actually conformed around the nut, making it even harder to get any type of socket wrench on. I tried every wrench and skate tool I own, to no avail.

Any of you guys have any ideas? The only thing I can think of is taking a dremel to the bottom bushings (there cracked and worthless anyway) and trying to cut them up and pry them off, so the hanger can move down and take pressure off the nut. The only thing I want from these trucks is the baseplates. Everything else can be destroyed, since they pretty much are anyway. The hangers are grinded down to the axle almost

Say you have a Dremel? I'd use the cut-off wheel and hold the Dremel so the wheel cuts vertically through the nut (you'll cut through the busing and washer too) making sure you don't go all the way through so you don't mess up the threads on the kingpin. Might have to do it on a couple of sides but once you've cut through it most of the way you should be able to break it apart.

The nut is probably seized on the kingpin as well which isn't helping matter either. You might try some penetrating oil first (probably won't work).

plumbers torch , apply heat to the nut until the nylock burns off and then dribble in penetrating oil. The heat will "draw" the oil into the tiny spaces between the nut/bolt and help break the rust bond.

Thanks guys, I'll try the Dremel to the nut first, I don't have access to a torch, unless I fashion a crude one out of a lighter and a can of hairspray

And please hold all jokes on "penetrating" oil

Hammer a smaller socket onto the nut. Twist off. If you get really desperate Sears has a bolt extractor. Supposed to get stripped bolts out.

Oh man. This thread is brilliant if you just read the title of the thread then all the different suggestions.

Taking a Dremel to my stripped nuts? No thanks.

if you have a circular saw you can get a cut off wheel at any hardware store . lock the truck in a vice fire up the saw and 30 seconds later presto!

Well since you guys bumped this thread up, I'll let you know that Bean-a-reano's trick of a smaller socket worked perfectly. I didn't even need to hammer, just a little force.

Thanks bean, if I ever meet you at a slalom race, remind me I owe you a cookie
