Lubed pivot cup
So after playing with my R2 180s I got the dreaded squeek. After searching the site I read some advice and put some vaseline in the pivot cup.
After going out, the squeek is gone, but HOLY CARVING, Batman! Without the friction generated in the pivot cup (which was causing the squeeking) I had to tighten down my Randals! Has anyone else lubed their pivot cup before? Please refrain from sharing stories of lubing anyone else's pivot cup, either, as jail stories should be kept to one's self!

Re: Lubed pivot cup
This one time in prison...
Actually, I lubed the pivot cup and it didn't so much make them turn better, but it made my randals turn faster. They were more responsive to subtle turning and did big turns quicker. I just made sure to get the walls of the pivot cup, not only the basin.
The guy in prison looked a lot like Tim Robbins and I think ended up breaking out...
I bet Im riddled with Canabisoids or whatever they're called. -Sideburnt

Re: Lubed pivot cup
I agree with Mark: just got done lube-ing my Randal 150's that squeaked about 5 mins. ago. Now they are perfect! just use silicone lube and you are golden, my friend!

Need to fix that equation pronto...

Re: Lubed pivot cup
Wetndry the pivot, then polish it so it all shiny. Then after cleaning the cup in hot soapy water, and drying it, use teflon based bike grease.
Bake at gas mark 4 for two hours, serve with a tomato relish and lambs foot salad. Serves two, or four as a snack. Goes well with a white wine spritza.

Re: Lubed pivot cup
I have always used dry soap. Crubmle a small chunk up and coat the hangars pivot with it. It lasts for a long time too.

Re: Lubed pivot cup
One thing, vaseline breaks down the cup faster because its a petroleum product. I just put some WD40 on mine today only because thats all we had at work, but i know it shortens the lifespan.... MHM's already posted all the best remedies!!

Sho' nuff! As soon as you pointed that out, PW, I ran upstairs, read the label, and silently cursed by bad fortune! Guess I'll find something else for when the squeeks come back.

Should the squeeking go away by itself eventually? My Holeys won't shut the hell up after 3 weeks.

I sprayed some Silicone Lube in the cups today. Fastened the nut back to what I had before, fell flat on my ass. Thanks, Mark.

Re: Lubed pivot cup
Yesterday, mainly because I just couldnt stand the squeak anymore, I placed a few drops of Speed Cream in there. After working it in, the board is silent.
I'll get a hold of one of the other products eventually, but in a pinch, try speed cream.
