I might, but here's the problem. If I use the same hangers and they share the middle pivot pin of the baseplate, the largest wheel that will fit is about 62mm. I'd have to make different hangers AND make a double-plate . If I use the same hangers but use two separate plates, I can adjust the distance between the axles for bigger wheels, and it's also easier to make slight adjustments to the height and angle of a plate.

That would be nice, but there is a big downside to using the slalom sized plates. They are designed to be as low as possible over a wide range of baseplate angles. The compact nature of the design makes it very hard to do a full sized downhill and longboard truck that protects the kingpin and/or pivot pins from grinds. The Liquid Trucks have to be "grind friendly" or they risk alienated a large number of riders. I'd like the Fyre Trucks to be as good as they can be for slalom, and the Liquid Trucks to be as good as they can be for downhill, carving, cruising, parks, and ditches. If one truck tries to be all things to all people, they tend not to be great for either.

Would it be too much work, too expensive to produce, etc. a baseplate where the hangers didn't share the middle pivot pin?

^^
That need is filled by using two individual trucks.

I could do it, but each one would essentially be an expensive machined "one off", and I'd need different plates for every wheel size (66mm, 70mm, 76mm, 83mm). When you set up a double truck, you only want a small gap (about 1/4") between the wheels.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
what about seperating the DH truck from everything else, so you dont have the limitations of having to make it grind friendly..

That's a possibilty. I could make some 6" to 7" wide hangers for a 30 degree rear plate, and a 40 degree front plate, and see well they work at speed in downhill.

Chris already used that one about 30 years ago (although I think the spelling was "Chapstik" )...

Gosh that SEXY! If I would buy anything from you, it would be THAT. Amazing... Does that use the same slalom baseplate?

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
looks like the same baseplate just a different hanger. a 35/25 degree set of these trucks would almost dominate at downhill.

that looks awesome. id love something liek that. i see nothing wrong with that design, when im looking for a speedboard truck i donr realy care if its grind friendly. on the bears bushing is the first thing that would hit the ground, so i see nothing wrong with these. plus id love the fact that i could justify buying more baseplates since they work on my slalom and downhill decks.

Board name: Fyre Missiles
If you did use a variation of Wiggle Stix as a name, when people talk about wiggle sticks, you will have the Kleenex or Xerox thing workin'..

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
I like the longer hanger on the baseplate for DH. Grinding is not what I look for in a DH truck.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
in saying grinding they mean the inevitable crash or debreis you will encounter going downhill. having a truck that low will "grind" on obsticles (ie sticks, rocks, curbs, potholes) much easier then say the r-2s. on the lower angle baseplates this will not be as large of an issue compared to 60-70 degree ts and gs slalom plates. the only parts that will grind excessivly is the top pin, nut, and hanger loop. hopefully the baseplates will be high and wide enough to allow use of 80mm+ wheels to reduce any problems.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
Which trucks is Chaput running in the North American Championships this weekend? Huh? Huh?

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
Must be a little uncomfortable being chaput right now, Kenny, you are telling him on his own thread that you will run his own trucks with seismic wheels. Tho theres a lot of variety and quality products on the ABEC11 lineup, theres a bit of catchup to play with Seismic at the moment... I bet the real bigzigzags will be awesomer than awesome.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
i am just not a large fan of abec11's...
ive ridden flys of all sizes and duros and just didnt like the feel. i however do not have much room to talk as i have never ridden any pinks, retros, or vents. just with all the hype around seismic latly i have been saving penny after penny for a set of 79a big vents.

To be honest, it seems to be that Chris is very good when it comes to acknowledging that other companies have a good product. He also seems to be very quick to get his head down and make something to compete with it.
Hearing that people are migrating to other wheels is probably making him work harder to make better wheels, like Seismic did when they saw the ABEC 11 wheels and came up with 'Vents.

I could always do a special dome topped fastener on the top pivot pin, like the one in blue above. The above is a 35 degree baseplate, and it almost looks as if the hanger loop protects the kingpin. It may take an allen wrench (argh) to assemble it, but changing bushings in Downhill is pretty rare.
I was curious about the 85mm wheels before they came out. I was thinking that 85mm wheels on 38mm hubs would have a good wheel-to-hub ratio. They're not too far off of a Momo, which is an 83mm wheel on a hub that's only 35mm at the most. Then I saw a couple of things on them that I would never do. They've essentially extended the mechanical lock on the hub all the way to the inside edge of the wheel, making the OD of the hub least 50mm. I walked away from our 50mm hubs a few years ago, because I wanted MORE depth of urethane, not less. Their wheel is narrower than a Gumball. The depth of urethane on the inside edge is less than an 83mm Flywheel, and the depth of urethane on the outside of the wheel is less than that of a Gumball. I'm opting for more urethane, a wider contact patch, smart flexible lips, and advanced urethane formulas for racing. It seems as if their designs are going in a different direction.
Anyway, whatever wheels you use, they would be well served on a truck like this, and it would work great in Downhill. We have plenty of weapons in the wheel department, should the need arise. I'm confident that a new BigZig, the Momos, and an offset and/or Reflex formula Flywheel would be very well received by riders everywhere.
