Re: Chaput Truck Alert
well my trucks have 8 king pins, 12 queen pins, four and twenty bushing baked in a pie, and an ace in the hole. They can be tightened mentally by flexing yo butt to do da booty clap and come with onboard laser scanning device that vaporizes road rubble.
but honestly those fyre trucks sound amazing just from an engineering standpoint and I dont even slalom. cant wait for the downhill ones especially with fyre trucks being better priced than other high end slalom trucks

Well, since I've had some exposure to them, I can tell you that everything Chaput posted is accurate, but that you shouldn't let yourself be confused by the fun he had listing numbers. I'd suggest everyone ignore whether it's machined and almost everything else, just to focus on one aspect that's easily understood and may be the core design feature: 3 kingpins (and no pivot cups).
Chaput's isn't the first truck that attentive 'Fish have seen without pivot cups (and I'm not talking about torsion trucks), so you might be able to run a few smart searches and find some threads about older trucks and some more recent one-offs that also went down that road. I bet you can think of some reasons why a hanger design without a traditional pivot cup might be used. On the Liquid Fyre v.2 and v.3 protos, it's because it looks coo...er, to achieve "zero slop".
The other features and aspects of the protos are impressive, too...but I think the "3 Kings" idea might have a big impact on truck designs, by others, too. Understanding the 3 kings thing unlocks the general idea of the whole system, imho.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
are you saying they have a spherical bearing instead of a pivot? That would be no slop. Like The Landy and Rad DH trucks

No, I'm saying they have 3 kingpins and no pivot cups. The trucks you're talking about (and others) use spherical bearings in the bushing seat and have the pivot bearing in the same position that a pivot cup would be. I guess one way to look at it is that the pivot bearing is "in the pivot cup". There are some design/FEA issues that arise with those designs. Chaput has no pivot cups in the baseplate, only 3 kingpins sticking up with a couple of Heim joints and some otter oil on them.

its always good to see chaput posting on sf means something good is coming.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
its all about the oter oil. It used to be baby seal but thats so not PC anymore.
now I'm not pretending to know anythoing about truck design but I've always thought more parts means more parts that could fail no?

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
Ya know how some trucks have floating axles? Well, mine have "floating" kinpins.
Everything that I've said so far is true, although I have been intentionally misleading in some ways (I gotta have some fun). The basis of this truck is actually SIMPLICITY and ease of use. It goes without saying that they have to be precise, and turn well. None of these features are worth a darn unless the trucks are both affordable and available. I'm working on "available" first, and "affordable" second.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
Interesting stuff here... I'd like to actually see them with my own eyes. Out of curiosity, do they ride more in the style of Indies, or Randals? I'm guessing Randals, and I'm asking cuz I'd like to try something different from both.
Off topic here, Chaput is actually a french name (oh noes!), and it's also somewhat impossible to pronounce in english. It's sha-pue sort of, except the u sound in french doesn't exist in english. Sorry. That doesn't mean you can't say it anyway you like. A LOT of americans have french last names without realizing it (Laporte, Paquin, Leblanc...).

Chris - it sounds like you're doing what a lot more people should be, and that's producing actual products rather than just talking about them. I'm very interested to see what you come up with on both ends of the spectrum as far as both slalom and downhill trucks are concerned.

Re: Chaput Truck Alert
To continue the guessing game I submit the following:
A strange H shaped configuration, with the crossbar of the H through the baseplate and the one end of the H attached to the baseplate via the Heim joints and the hanger attached to the other end.

No Cigar?

Maybe a cigarette. It's more of a lower case T pivoting in a E/U on Lifesavers.

He's been through multiple prototype iterations at this point. This is a far cry from just resurrecting an old favorite. This is a new truck. It solves many of the problems traditional trucks have had. That includes Radikal, which is a traditional truck of the "reverse kingpin" type. I'm not saying Chris' new truck is perfect. There always has been and always will be room for improvement. But for now, my feeling is that this is the most advanced offering out there.
... or at least it will be when it comes to market, which should be ... soon.
I'd like to give more details. Chris will have to do that. For now I can say it is precise and easy to pump. It also has a great resistance/energy return system. Need I add that the bushings are really good?
the best little detail is that THE TRUCKS WILL BE AFFORDABLE so skating's passions can be available to all who wish to roll, not just those with "a pocket full of hundies".
