Depends on what you are riding now, where you plan to go with your skatebaording career, and your skill level.
It really helps to learn on normal randals... get down the technique of drifting, safety sliding, speed, drafting... just know the basics first, then once you reach a stopping point where you can obviously tell that there is something holding you back that is not just you being lazy not taking the time to learn... go ahead and buy some jimZs. Although you should be able to learn just fine on a regular longboard.
It's much harder to really take advantage of JimZs if you start out on them first without learning basic technique first on regular equipment.
Other then that, YES. They are worth the cash if you can really put them to use.
