    Default Truck setup for turning?

I ride a 46" pintail with r180s +gumballs78a. How do you guys tune your trucks to turn better?

Softer bushings up front. A standard wedge in the front as well!

    Your weight?

Are you running the trucks stock? Any mods?

Thumbs up Re: Truck setup for turning?

Cupertino, subject to your weight (which will let us give you suggestions for specific bushings):

--take your trucks apart, and install the kingpin from under the baseplate, so it sticks out of the baseplate instead of "threading into it". Better yet, go down to Home Depot with the kingpin and buy two more, Grade 8 bolts that are 1/2" longer.
--while you're at Home Depot, buy 6 flat washers, and replace the cupped washers on your Randals with these. While you're running the stock bushings use 4, ie one-for-one replacement. After you swap in Khiro or etc...put two washers under each lower bushing (stock Randal bushings are a little taller than aftermarket bushings are). The flat washers will let your bushings deform a little more w/o getting cut: you'll turn better and they'll last longer.
--replace the top and/or bottom bushings with softer Khiros. If you want a starting point, just put Khiro TALL blue insert conicals in the top position of each truck and tune from there.

Give us your weight and how you're riding the board, and you can get some great insight on setups and tuning.

    Guys

When people talk about "top" and "bottom" bushings, are they describing the trucks sitting on the wheels ready to roll, or from the vantage point of a wheels-up board ready to be tinkered with?

p.s. whatever search police are fixing to pounce on me, I didn't feel like searching tonight LOL

    thanks bro

You never did give your weight! I'm a lite weight at 150 lbs and if I just want a wickedly carvy smooth flow, I use Khiro blue barrel on the bottom and white conical insert on top The onlt 180's I have are on a Bozi wedge nose pintail so it's a cruising kinda deck anyway! I also go with red Bottom blue top and flip the rear hanger! With all the advice you've gotten tonight I think the Fish set you up to go!

I'm 5'6" and 135lbs. I typically bomb hills(nothing too extreme), carve and taking sharp turns(parking garages..etc.) Everything is stock. Sometimes when i turn i start sliding off and eventually get thrown off. It could be happening because im a lousy LB'er but any advice would help.

Softer bushings and all the other good advice, will let your deck lean more easily and it will help "cradle" you in turns!. You won't regret it. If you have the funds, order a few different variation or even a Khiro bushing kit and get it just right! There's nothing better to advance your learning curve than a good set-up that is tuned to the rider!

Deeper turns happen when the bushing isn't tightened down too hard, so remember that. Also the longer you ride the more your board control will change, and you will probably start liking "looser"/deeper turning/more responsive feels. I know for me, when I started I would have thought how I have my trucks on my S9 now would be for someone 50 pounds lighter than I am. Now I can't understand how I used to have trouble making some of the corners downtown that I now I don't have any problem with. It's so hard to say "my trucks are loose" because everyone's loose and stiff is so different. One of my friends says he likes his trucks pretty medium, but I consider them almost looser than rideable...

hmm... when I want my trucks to turn better, I lean harder...

but using a skate tool and loosening the trucks is a good idea too...
