Re: Venom bushings?
I just got a big order of venoms delievered to my house. From what I have noticed so far, they live up to the hype. I tested the 78a standard pack all around and 93/90a barrels. The 78a's were the extremely turny and leany and had TONS of rebound. For some reason, they felt more turny AND stable than bushings with a similar durometer. The 93/90a barrels are very very stable, and yet manage to turn very well. They were also extremely reboundy.
All in all, these are the best bushings I've ever used. If you don't have some, get some.

Re: Venom bushings?
I have to say, these bushings rock. Did anyone notice all of the stuff that Khiro just put out right after the venom release? It seems like they started listening after Zak took alot of market share. They have new bushings and tons of kits:
Khiro
Really sort of last minute feel to the release of this stuff. But good that they did it I guess.
Go Zak! Make everyone work for their food!
Lol!

I am not sure if Zak took much of the bushing market yet. But it does seem Venom is getting lots of attention. There is high profile placements of his bushings on racing DH rider boards and of course OEM on Paris trucks. Though the slalom market is very small, there is quite a few slalom racers racing on Venom bush.
As consumers we should see some good competition between Venom and Khiro and that is a benefit to us. It may come in pricing, quality and more variety. Or all the above. Zak has definately raised the bar for Khiro.
IMHO

Once the eliminator bushings come out, I think that atleast 75% of bushings will be bought from venom. Or atleast they should be.

Fixed.
You have to remember, Khiro, unlike Venom, makes a lot of bushings that are really popular among shortboarders. So it's not like Khiro is really going to take that much of a hit if Venom starts dominating the longboard/speedboard market.
Then again, I may be completely wrong. I don't have as much experience in the market as much as most of the people on SL, but that's what seems logical to me.

Re: Venom bushings?
im getting either randal 42 baseplates, paris 180 hangers, and venoms... or stock randals (with 42 baseplates) and venoms for a rayne hellcat with bones reds, and orangatangs.. I'll use this board for downhill at about 30 -40 mph for a while and then i'll probably go faster at about 50mph... So I was wondering whether I should get the yellow (85a), red (90a), or green (93a) venom downhill bushings.. ( I weigh like 120) thanks

Re: Venom bushings?
I can tell you from my experience 93a is really ####### stiff, and Ive got 25 lbs on you
I would go for 90 on top and 85 on the bottom or 90 all around,
I haven't gone up to 40-50 mph though, but I would also advise you to spend the bit of extra cash and get a few options so you can play around with them

Re: Venom bushings?
Hi guys,
I'm lookin for a bit of advice on how to fix up two boards. Both of them I've ridden long enough and hard enough now that the stock bushings just feel dead... Anyways, I'm about 135lbs, typical session is carving, cruising, dodging people and pumping. There aren't many hills where I ride, so stability is not a major issue for me... I'll learn to balance well enough on whatever I'm riding. I'm just looking for nice carving set-ups with enough rebound to pump around town when I need to.
So what I've got is Gullwing Chargers on a Dervish and, for the tricky one, Gullwing Sidewinders on a S9 Maccas.
From what I've gathered from this thread, it looks like I should go with 78a barrels on the top and 81a barrels on the bottom on both trucks for my Dervish. Yes? No? Other suggestions for my weight/style?
I have no idea where to start with the Sidewinders... I realize it may get a bit expensive, but I love this setup and I really want to bring it to life. I was thinking 85a cones all around? May be way to turny... Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

venom bushings are pretty squishy and give alot of rebound, even when cranked down
so you don't need to go to as soft as with some other companies like bone or khiro
i'm about 155 and use 85A up front and 93A in back with the standard set (barrel bottom cone top)
though i do more sliding and downhill carving, my setup still pumps okay and has a great feel when i'm commuting/cruising
if you wanna pump that thing with venoms go with the super carve set (cones top and bottom)
you got it right for your weight, 85As all around would be pretty good
though i suggest trying the orange up front and the red in back
i think those are 81a/90a respectively
but the only way to know for sure what'll work for you is to just experiment
bushings are cheap and easy to change out
spend the $20 and get the blue through red sets with venom
swap them out, try mixing and matching, best way at it

Re: Venom bushings?
hey guys, I just got some Venoms today and they don't really feel how I expected them to. I am using them on a demonseed with 852 bears and have previously been using blue khiros (regular, not double barrel). I use the board for carving and sliding around, not so much for speed, so I keep the trucks pretty loose. I got 2 85a venom standard packs, 1 85a DH pack, and 1 90a DH pack.
Anyways, I went to the only very small hill where I live in Jacksonville (1 block, no more than 18mph) to test my new bushings out. After putting a standard pack in each truck and tightening it a bit, I tooka run down the hill and noticed that they were very different feeling than the khiros. They seemed to feel the opposite of reboundy, with very little resistance to turning, and they would stick sideways rather than returning to center well. Also, they feel very slick and almost waxy on the outside, and when I picked my board up, the bushings on the front truck had slipped right out of the bushing seat in the direction in which I had last turned. After 2 runs carving down this very short hill, small chunks were coming off the bottom front bushing, so I put the khiros back on and went home.
Anyways, I was very disappointed with how these bushings felt, but they felt much different than everyone else says they do, so I feel like I am doing something wrong. They felt that they had very little rebound and return to center even though I was using cupped washers instead of my normal flat ones. Are they supposed to be kept really tight? and how do I keep them from coming out of the bushing seat because they are so slick? I will say they turn much deeper than the khiros, even though the khiros turn plenty deep, and I got railbite quite easily with them in. I have not used any of the other bushings because I was so disappointed with the 85a's that I was using.

thats bad...
were the conical ones the only ones that moved ?
why don't you try them double barrel instead, see if that helps
I run 78/81 double barrels on my paris/dervish and they can lock out and still come back straight..
Whatever it is i hope you get it sorted out ..maybe it was just a bad batch ?

Re: Venom bushings?
Sleutho, I've been running cupped double barrels in my (2008 edition) 852s and they fit perfect (although the top cup sometimes contacts the hanger--no biggie). 93a bottoms, 90a tops. Great return for me (at +/- 190). Like people have posted a lot above, they're kinda in their own world, duro-wise, and you can go to a higher duro with them and still get great response. Sometimes you have to go higher: I've felt that squishy, non-return thing you mentioned with venoms in various set-ups when the duro's been too low for my weight.
The slick/waxy feel is normal, IME. Don't know why you'd have trouble with the bushing seat, but, yeah, try double barrels if it's only the cone slipping.

Re: Venom bushings?
how much do you weigh? try the double barrel 90a. you'll get plenty of return to center. venoms run softer than khiros.

Re: Venom bushings?
I weigh 155-160 and I had heard that they run a bit softer than khiros but I wanted to try the 85a anyways. Also, I am using a Demonseed that is really low, so I don't have the leverage over the trucks that a topmount would.
I think I'll try a 85a/90a double barrel combo today and see if that helps, but I'm still afraid of tearing up my bushings.
Oh, and it was both the front cone and barrel that was sliding out of the bushing seat.
