I plan on making a drop through board, and was wondering if you guys could help shed some light on the truck situation. The board will probably be made of 7 ply maple between 40 and 50 inches in length, but I see no problem reinforcing the drop through area.
So the question is, what trucks are the "best" (obviously there are opinions etc. etc. just work with me). I was mainly looking at the Randal II 180's or the Paris 180's (and possibly the Tracker 219's). The trackers look poorly made, and I'm not sure if a 219mm truck would be over kill. The Randal's seem to be the cat's meow, and have a template for the drop through, though it shouldn't be a problem either way. The Paris's look well made and have an easy drop through cut out (rectangle).
Here's my dilemma. What angle should I get? They both come stock with a 50* base plate, but it looks like the Randal's have a much better market for customization (different base plate) but the Paris' are guaranteed for life. I read that the Randals have better stock bushings than the Paris' but I'll prob pick up some new ones anyway. Should I start with a different base plate? 40*? 35*? a 50/35 combo? I'm fairly new so I'm pretty lost. The board will be used for downhill, carving, flatland, basically everything but mainly going fast. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
-Alex
...oh, and should I forget about the Tracker 219's?
If the plies are standard thickness, that board will be very flexy (if you don't add glass, etc).
Dropped-thru 219's will be stable, but will turn really poorly.
Remember that dropping a truck through the board moves the deck closer to the axle, and that reduces leverage (which helps increase stability). For what you're describing, I'd go with 42/42 Randal 180s.
I have ridden r-IIs on three different boards that I have owned, and many more on other people's setups. I personally do not like the feel of them for anything above 20mph. I do a lot of downhill and for that I much prefer crails, which are a very turny yet stable speed truck. They carve nicely as well if you run them loose. Randals are a good bet for when you are learning, they are a very middle of the road truck that are highly customizable (baseplates etc) and can have IMMENSELY different feels based on the bushings you put in them.
I would say go with randals. Choose a 50* plate if you want something with a better turn/carve to it, 42* for a bit more stability.
The one selling point for paris trucks in my opinion is that if you wait a few weeks they will come stock with Zak (T.V.A.R.)'s AMAZING venom bushings.
The randals come at 50* I believe. And I don't wanna order base plates just yet. Can you flip the Paris'? Will it make that much of a difference? And do you think in a few weeks that the eGay site will have the amazing bushings in the trucks?

Flipping the hangers helps them ride better when you are lower to the ground. Paris hangers have a deep bushing seat on one side sooo if you flip the hanger it will alter the angle in which the truck pivots which is like a randal so yes, you can flip paris trucks, either way they have an offset bushing seat like randals. I prefer the randal II 180s in the end though as well but that is my personally choice, everyone different. And keep tabs on ebay each day or so and get them asap if you end up choosing sooner and better have those vemon bushings dream come true. Ohhh la to Venom bushings, but anyways...
Hope that helped.

sweet, thanks for all the help. Since I've got plenty of time, I'll try to wait for the new paris' to come out. Until then I'll find some supplies for the board itself.
I would reccomend against using ebay. There are very helpful, very reasonably price retailers that advertise on this site. Two of which would be Milehighskates and daddiesboardshop. Both of those sites will give you good service, good prices, and a solid product. If you decide to go with randals on DBS you can order them on 42 degree plates, you wont have the buy the baseplates afterwards. Paris trucks are a good choice though, so I reccomend checking the milehighskates website every so often in the next couple weeks and waiting for an update.
To MHM: Any specifics that can help alex figure out how long he will be waiting before placing the order? Is paris stocking the bushings as soon as zak releases them mainstream?

I would definitely go with the new Randal 180s. The stock bushings are very nice (as far as stock bushings go, they're #2 to the Charger stock ones), and they are some of the best overall trucks out there. Parises are good trucks, but with their new run of trucks, Randal has surpassed Paris and Bear, and joined Indy 215s on Core plates as the best all around trucks.
Thanks a bunch. You guys have been very helpful. I'm in no rush as of yet because I'm still trying to figure out what material to use. I will def buy through sponsors if I can get a good deal, I was using ebay as an example.
As far as material I started a thread in the building section here. Feel free to chime in.
Also, as I get further and further off topic, do you think that the lime Bigzigs are a good combo for the board style and trucks? I'm looking to learn how to slide (for stopping purposes), but I want traction as well. (Lime is 80a).
