I ordered two sets of randal II 180s off of amazon. The first set arrived, and they were exactly what I expected them to look like. Dull metal finish, clear red bushings, and washers instead of bushing cups. The second set arrived, and they were far more shiny, cleaner cast, the axle wasn't showing through the hanger, and it yellow bushings and actual bushing cups. I can include pictures of both trucks if someone wants a side by side comparison, but i thought someone might know about these differences. Is one better than the other? Is one a newer casting?

it sounds like you have a little variation of different models there.
I believe that the one with the axel not showing is an older hanger, but might be a newer plate, and old bushings, i think the clear red is the new bushing, and i know they are working on going to flat washers instead of cupped, so maybe you are caught in the overlap here or something. thats my guess
The shiny hanger with the cleaner casting is the newer of the 2. The axle is grade 8 and cast in and is not visible through the hanger. Both versions are out there it just depends on who you get them from and who their supplier is. I had the same problem trying to get them, all my local shops had the older ones of course none of them had any clue there were differences. Still a great truck old or new but the new ones are much nicer IMO.

No, the shiny hanger is the old model. And IMHO, inferior to the newer cast. It probably came with the kingpin unflipped. One difference I prefer on the newer casting is the lip around the bushing popckets are too tall and eventually come into contact with the bushing washer. In addition, the cup around the bushing is too restrictive. The newer (dull) casting has little notches at 3:00 and 9:00, allowing for deeper leans. Check it out. I had both the older and newer R II 180's. I modified my older castings before giving them to my brother. They are both superb, but newer is better.

Ooops...s***! Thanks for fixin that...livin in opposite world! Dull brushed look, cleaner casting, grade 8 axle, cast in axle visible through the hanger = newer!
And yes the clear red/ruby bushings are the new ones!
I've seen a bunch of pictures of stock R II's and they all had the cup washer with like a green/yellow bushing. I placed my order for new R II's and they came in a lil while later. WHen i took them out I saw that there is no cup washer but a flat washer and the bushing this time was like a clear red. Whatever....sweet trucks none-the-less new or old style
The newest revision are raw aluminum (dull grey), with ruby clear bushings and flat washers. They also come that way in matte black and a small run of Pink.

You got lucky and received the new flat washers. People used to pay extra for that as an 'upgrade', so consider yourself stoked!
