Default Ate shisil with my exkates

so was all pumped to get my new Exkates. they ride great and handle speed. Not bad right? Well I just took them on there first voyage of a pretty fast hill that I hit up here in Phoenix. It was great!!! The wind in my ears was singing, the dotted lines in the road were wizzing under my feet faster and faster. As I pick up more speed I start to slalom the reflectors that divide lanes. I am going so fast I can barely mke the turns!!! I love it!

So I come to the bottom and start slowing down and make some sharp carves enjoying the tight turning radius of Exkates...and....

Suddenly a strange feeling....I am flying....so peaceful. I have got the feeling of floating in a cloud before but this time I really felt like I was flying!

Then it hit me...OH SHISIL!!!!!! Something broke and I am gonna eat poo and die!!! The internal cam that stops wheel bite snapped and my front wheel bit like a fat man at a buffet!

The story ends with me peeling my backside up off the asphalt and going home to call Exkate and get the wonderful life time warranty.

Not me, but I did have the truck bolts stripout from the trucks twice while pulling a tight carve. The first time the trucks came all the way off, second time I caught during inspection.

I have two pair of 101's. I've never had that cam break *knock on wood*. I stripped out a hole on one of trucks. That was partially my fault though.
Loose trucks may save lives, but they won’t save you any money on your car insurance.

I've been riding the same set for 3 years with no incident.

Hey Cody: good crash story, bud!

Can you take pictures of the broken truck? It would be cool to see what broke. Hey, stuff happens. The big test will be how well Exkate handles it. Report on that, too, eh?

I had my bushings split before. But this was an older problem which I believe they fixed. Sounds like the trucks handled speed well, except for the manufacturing defect. Sorry dude.

I got ten sets of them, so I just threw them aside and threw on new pair. When I get the time I'm gonna tell them about it. That's just the trouble with not having the bolts go all the way thru. The trucks are softer metal, not good with that thread count. I think that after awhile the top of the bolt works it's way into the top of the board causing play. That's what I've been looking for during inspection, and it's been cool since. I still swear by them even so. Slap them on and have fun, their a bitchen truck. As far as for color=stiffness, red is the sofets bushing. Black is mid, and blue is pretty stiff. I don't know about the dark red, Ive never used that bushing.

Yes, this happened to me too!

Fortunately I'm new and wasn't flying along at a great speed, but yeah, that cam started to rip and allowed the truck to turn farther in one direction than the other, which led to heelside wheelbite and an unexpected meeting between me and some pavement.

When I called the store I bought the board from, they mentioned they've had several complaints about this and according to Exkate, it is due to a bad batch of trucks from the manufacturer. Supposedly, the new batches don't have this breakage issue. A new set is now on the way, at least they got the nice warranty.

Exkate, if you're reading this, put a bigger radius on the inside corners of the cams to distribute the stress load. Then radius or chamfer the tips of the mating cams for clearance to the new larger radius. Duh, right?

Moral of the story, it really sucks when you can't trust your trucks.

same thing happened with the front truck. how long did it take exkate to send you the new truck and did you have to send in the broken one?

I got my board from Gear Guys, so I called them about the broken trucks. That was Friday the 5th. Today is Monday the 8th and the new trucks have already showed up (they are west coast, I am east coast) and they (GG) paid for return shipping of the broken ones.

Needless to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by their springing for priority shipping, and I'm happy that I get to ride my board a week sooner than I planned.

    Thanks again Gear Guys!

I was getting wheelbite with mine too. I took them apart and everything looked OK. I switched over to some smaller wheels and no more wheelbite. My board is a Soul 60 inch with 76mm Exkate Turbos. I switched over to the 65mm black wheels that came with my Sector 9 Bola.

btw... how do I adjust the Exkate trucks? Do I use the hex bolt?? Because I can't get a wrench on it without removing the trucks from the deck.

    cheers... Joe

Now I may be wrong about this, but as far as I can tell, there's not much adjusting you can do to them.

I think the only way to change their turn characteristic is to change to a different color Exkate bushing.
