Thumbs up 666 Magun-style review

Let me preface by saying I have never ridden Maguns, so I can't compare them.

Overall look: If my camera hadn't broke last week, I'd have good pics. Sorry. If you haven't seen them, refer to green's 666 threads. They look great. Hanger width on mine is around 185mm.

Compatibility/fit: Upon arrival, they came equipped with vinyl tubing sections which fit snugly in Randal pivots. I mounted them to some Randal 50 degree BPs . The fit is very tight, Green's tolerances are spot on. With my grade8 KP wrapped in a single corkscrew of teflon tape, nothing jiggled. Bottom bushings are Jimz Blacks, and tops are Karrot's Abec11 orange Jimz bottoms. The bushing seats are spot on and there is no play between bushing and seat. These are non-bearing hangers, in case you didn't know.

Setup: Modded PPS DP Hill killer deck: Top mount. Cut down 2 1/2". WB shortened to 32" for rigidity. Wheel wells added to acommodate up to around 80mm wheels.
As stated, R2 50 deg
Wheels are 80mm Sector 9 race.
Around 3/8" soft riser to avoid wheelbite, though for the runs I take this board on, probably not necessary.
With the in-line axles and 80mm wheels, the hanger sits pretty low off the ground. Around 3/8" or 10mm, but I didn't measure it. If you want to know how low, take your R2 hanger and measure the distance from your KP hole to the center of your axle cast, and subtract that measurement from your hangers. You'll be roughly that much lower, and the hanger that much closer to the ground. I personally don't really care, so I didn't measure it.

Okay. The ride...if you're used to R2 hangers on 50 degree plates, this is nowhere near that. The turn is very controlled and tight. And precise. I weigh 225, and really have to lean to get the board to lean hard. (that's the intention). The cool thing is, I could chip away at turns standing (especially whilst getting used to the feel) or put a hand down to scrub a little speed and control the turn better and never feel threatened.

The hills: 2 runs: The first, a steep 1/2 mile run that goes to 45 (50 with a tailwind, 40 with a headwind) in an extremely short amount of time. By GPS, the average grade is around 13%, with some flatter sections and some steeper sections. It's like dropping over the edge on a roller coaster. I will admit, it's not too technical and is more of a stability testing ground for me (I've actually done this hill a number of times with much sketchier trucks, including Holeys, which do not feel safe). With Green's trucks, I could practically dance a jig whilst bombing.

For any of you who made it to the Tri-city outlaw, this second run was your final run.

Run 2 is much more tech and is 40+ with a number of switchback and 90 degree turns. With this stable setup, requires more palming and some drifting with the relatively narrow s9 wheels. Felt so comfortable climbing up and down my board to make these corners, it was incredible, and a far cry from my usual R2 42s. With my 42s and their lean, I still have to drop down to make most of the switchbacks. With the 666 trucks it requires more torque to make the corners, but I feel much more confident throwing my weight into them, it's a more controlled turn. Hard to explain if you've never taken a 180 degree turn at 30mph, but you really have to rail it. This was my first time running the S9 race formulas, and with these hangers, traction felt roughly the same as broken in lime zigs and randal 42s, but not sure as I hit the corners a little faster with the 666s.

Overall:
Let me preface by saying I'm not the the most DH savvy guy, but I've been skating for 29 years and would like to think my balance is somewhere near an A+, and there is nothing on a skateboard that really gives me the willies. Except footbraking. Oh yeah. Footbraking. Okay. I avoid it where I can, but in some cases it is necessary. With these hangers, of course some of the tippiness goes away, and felt better footbraking this setup than anything I've ridden, next to a low-ass Evo/Smoky setup. So that takes care of that. It's all mental anyway, right?
Back to overall: These hangers are very high quality hand machined MFs. I got exactly what I was expecting. Wait time was around a week (and Max even apologized for taking that long ).
I'm so impressed, I've requested some of the other style hangers when he has time.. Well worth it if you're looking to add some stability to one of your speedier setups.

As a footnote, you can run these hangers with barrells or cones and achieve plenty of lean for messing around. These hangers will not work with holey baseplates, as the BPs are wide and the hanger hit with even a slight lean. I realize this is kind of a quick review. If anyone needs more details, you can PM me and I'll tell you my opinions.

Nice work, Max.

I'm a little confused. What do you mean when you say they are "hand milled". It seems like a silly question but could someone explain?
