Default swapping bushings over on Randal trucks

we just had a customer wanting the randal 150's but with the yellow bushings from the 180's put in there instead of the stock red ones.

We swapped the m over but I was curious as to what effect this would have. She rides a 5' board I think but that's all I know.

The reds are harder than the yellows-my friend with 180s on his rode my new board with 150s and wanted more carvability out of it like his 180s were giving him. Now I have bones hardcore soft blues in my 150s and I like them a lot, now it carves great.

ahhh - I see - so by putting the yellow ones in the 150's - it makes it better to carve, easier to turn?

Spot on! Just don't try to compensate for the softer bushings by tightening down the kingpin too much, or they'll split!

i.ve ridden both the reds and the yellows, The yellows are softer, but i don't use either of them now. I almost never use stock bushings on any of my trucks.

When I get new Randalls, I just flip the cup and bolt them back together. I've grown to like the stock yellows.... I know that's uncool and everything, but ... there you go.

Randal cup washers are sharp and can rip through the bushings. No fun. Save a bushing, flip a washer.

that works, but i like flat washers better. so instead of flipping your washers, get some flatwashers from the hardwarestore, it is good stuff, and while your therre get some grade 8 bolts to use as kingpins. this is so you dont have one snap on you, becasue it happens, and it is no fun.

I tried looking for some proper kingpin sized bolts, but none I found were 3/4-24, only 18 thread pitch. On top of that, the lock nuts in the apporpriate size have a very tall profile. Nothing at the store was 24 thread pitch...

might i sujest a new kingpin (extra long) and caping your normal bushings with a 62a kirho cone (the ones with aluminum on them, so they don't get ripped to shreads)

dude, just get some next time you order from milehigh then, because mark has 'em. and thats odd that you cant find the right bolts at the store, you would think they would stock stuff people use, but it might be easy just to get those 18 threads and get some matching 18thread nuts.

Remember you want Grade-8 bolts. You'll probably find them in the drawer type area of bolts, not in the open bins. Ace Hardware has them for sure, as does Orchard Supply Hardware. The Grade-8 bolts have six hash marks on the head of them and what you want are 3/8 by 24. The 2.5" are long enough but if you get 3" you can use the big nuts too, and any size bushings you want.

Mile High Skates is the easiest way to accomplish all this though.

I needed to pick up some acetone and high purity alcohol so I figured I'd try and kill two birds with one stone. What a horrible analogy. So I figured I'd try and use a single swing of the club for two baby seals. Shi[/b]t, I can't get this right... So I figured I try and get two things accomplished at once. Between Ace Hardware and Lowe's, I couldn't get anything in 24 thread pitch. They had the 3/4-18 2.5" and 3.0" with locknuts to go with 'em, but not 24. They also had 5/16-18 (for axle and seismic kingpin), but not 24. They had 10/24 and 8/32 (for mounting hardware), but no 10/32... so bloody annoying. And my local skateshop is the pits... Mile High forever.

EDIT: Oh yah, I really meant 3/8, not 3/4 for all the kingpin talk
