    Default MMW

Hi, longboardy types. I'm Geezer-X, proprieter of Monkeywrench machine Works. We do any and everything to trucks. 8mm axles, Ti axles, spherical pivots, bearing preload tube retrofit on spin axle trucks, make 'em wider, narrower, polished, blast finished, anodised, prototype machining, lathe cut Stimulator bushings, MonkeRubbers rubber bushings, the MMW ChipStack slalom deck...etc, etc.

I've been a skater since the early 70's, and a machinist/fabricator/engineer/gearhead for a long, long time. I hope to contribute to the discussion here of our favorite little hinges with springs, skateboard trucks....

    Welcome to Silverfish!

I think most people here know who you are!

It's great to have you here.

    Your work is great.

I have been thinking of having you add some 8mm axles and lathe trimmed green stims to my R2 180's for a while.

I should be doing that before the spring.

Thanks for the pictures, great stuff!

Hey, what the hell are spherical bearings in trucks. I've heard about them, but I still don't get what they do.

The jim z hangars use a spherical bearing.

I don't know if Geezer X is talking about this or something else.

Eliminates play because the axles in your trucks are not 8mm. Therefore it helps your bearings last longer, and gives you more traction.

8mm axles just rock according to everyone. And by god, I want some too. With precision spacers damn't. That's what I want for christmas, some bloody 10.1mm spacers by god. Or maybe some biltin bearings created by Rockin' Ron, 'cause that'd just... rock.

    Life, my friend, rocks....

Sorry, irresistable, I would want some 8mm hangers so I could get a speed washer milled into the side and never have to deal with it again.

yah, and MMW sells monkey nuts too (*ahem* that being the 5/16 lock lock nut with a shoulder that takes the place of the washer).

    does this...

"MMW, at least at the present time, does not furnish trucks or hangers. We are however happy to receive shipments of new trucks bought from the suppliers we've thoughtfully provided links above."

... mean that i need to buy new truck, and i can't send you one of mine?

You can send one of yours, or 80 of yours, I hear, or you can buy new trucks and get them shipped directly...

Default We've got 'em. Err some of them...

MMW has Tracker RTS and RTX trucks in stock, seeing as we've mainly been doing trucks for slalom racers (who can tell you how well they work down to the 100th of a second). We also have the remaining inventory of 3DM 3TC trucks. We've got some Randal 180 hagers around here somewhere, and I guess we'll start stocking Randal 150s, 180s, and DHs. We do a nice 1/2" titanium axle in the DH hanger which makes a big difference traction wise, as well as not bending when you're running ginormous wheels.

As for why 8mm, the diameter difference is small, but important, but straightness is a huge factor for grip, especially predictable grip, and having the ends of the hanger faced perfectly concentric and square to the centerline of the axle and running a hard, well machined spacer or Biltins will allow you to run your axle nuts TIGHT with zero binding or play, which is truly the secret to precise turning, low drag, and smooth predictable breakaway.

I know this is impossible, but what about some Seismic 180's with an 8mm axle... one can dream, right?

    Bloody superior casting process...

Oh yes, welcome to Silverfish! Yah!
