    Default 8mm axles

Is there any reason the manufacturers don't just use 8mm axles in the first place. Every body seems to want them anyway.

Because nothing is ever exactly 8mm. Well, nothing they could afford on the mass production scale they use to produce trucks. So they have to build in some margin of error and allow that some axles may come out a little larger and some a little smaller.

If they chose to tell their axle manufacturer to make 8mm axles, some would come back too large and the bearings wouldn't fit on!

So they have to pick a number that is smaller so that for sure each axle will allow a bearing to slide on.

    Our Survey Says: EERHRHHR ERR!
    WRONG.
It's because the axels used in skateboard trucks are Imperial where as your bearings are Metric.

as lbl points out, the axle's are 5/16 so that we can easily thread them in 5/16 and allow multiple sized wheel lengths (as in spacer length, from 7mm to 12mm). Most truck manufacturing companies would probably also hate having an 8mm axle with 5/16 threading for the common locknut, whereas someone like myself wouldn't mind it. Or at least that's my take on it.

I think Chaput and his Liquid trucks are going to be 8mm axles, but I'm not positive.
