Seen a few people comment about wheels falling off lately...
I've said this a few times, but here we go again.
NUTS WEAR OUT...
In-fact many vendors recommend you use a nut once.
That's right, if you have to take it off, replace it.
Of course this is overkill for us, but it does provide some perspective.
It's hard to say how often you need to replace them, it depends on how often you
change wheels, clean bearings etc. So it's something that needs to be done by feel.
One thing's for sure, if you can move it easy with your fingers...
Nylock nuts were developed for the aircraft industry and aircraft safety regulation require that new nuts be used every single time the bolt is fastened. They are really inexpensive if you buy them by the 100ct box.
That said, I almost never have to replace kingpin nuts and have some that i have prolly unfastened dozens of times. I think the pressure from the bushings helps keeps them tight anyway.

i had a dream where i was skating down a large, i hit some shallow water and my wheels fell off, i went flying and thenhad to rummage through some guys garage to find my wheels.... im taking it as a sign to buy new nuts..

When you guys tighten your wheels or whatever do you allow some play for the wheel to move back n forth? or do you tighten them just enough to where there is no play?

tighten them till they move back and forth very, little, if you shake your board and you can hear the wheel knock into the nuts its too loose, likewise if you spin the wheel and its stopped by the nut after a very short time its too tight

Why would you want to run your wheels alittle loose with some play? I would think itd be easier to get speed wobbles at high speeds with your wheels slapping around, but i can be wrong.

Too bad not everything can stay tight the more times you screw it.....
