Baku trucks
Hey Guys, I was wondering what are your thoughts and opinions on Baku trucks?
I bought a set off of Ebay And I am not sure which way to mount them with the kingpin facing inward to the center or outward to the tips of my board? How about recommended wheel sizes? Right now I have 80mm Krypts. on 180 Seismic trucks on a 42 inch board.
Thanks, Steve

Re: Baku trucks
Mount them whichever way makes it so that if you lean on the left rail of your board, the wheels on the left side should pivot closer together. I'm not familiar with Baku's but that is how skate trucks need to turn.

Re: Baku trucks
Baku trucks will mount with the kingpin facing toward the center of the board. The truck will be sloping in toward the center of the board. They are pretty tall and you may be able to put big wheels on them. They also lean over pretty far, even with their internal turn limiters, so you still need to watch out for wheel bite and adjust accordingly. You'll also need to re-drill your deck since they have a different, longer hole pattern than a standard truck. They are loose and squirrelly trucks, great for slow speed carving but dangerous at speed.

The trucks require a special mounting hole pattern of 1.625"x3.125"/42mmx80mm. I am sure you'll know if they are mounted right as soon as you step on the board. You will have to test different sizes to see how big you can go without getting wheelbite. I have 75mm wheels set up with my Revenges, and still have a couple millimeters of clearance. Once you have had a chance to try them, post a review.

When you feel it, flow with it, live in the moment; and shred it like you'll never skate again, everytime.
that kind of run is why i skate, that kind of run is why i live."

Bakus are considered a 'torsion' truck. The first torsion-style truck was the Magnum, by Mattel. Note the similarity to Baku:

(thanks hc)
That was followed by (in order):
----------------------------------------------
Exkate (considered the first modern torsion truck)
Kapu (sued out of existence by Exkate)
Nuclear Pickle (uses internal spring)
Baku (uses internal 'radial compression' bushing)
Revenge

Re: Baku trucks
Those Baku are fun, and rare, trucks, and there are a couple of things you should know: First, you cannot adjust them with the nut on the kingpin. Don't cinch that down. Second, the internal stops had a tendency to break. This happens sooner if you cinch them, or if you're heavy and like to lay it hard-over on the rail a lot.
Stevie gave you a pretty good timeline there, and if you take the Nuclear Pickles out of it, there's even a bloodline straight through those trucks: the Mattel engineers released their designs to the two designers of the Kapu, and they then worked on the Exkate before a falling out that led to the Baku and litigation between each other. One of them later designed "Revenge" with RobbieO, and all these trucks have the same general design concept behind them.
