Originals on a Spliff??
My spliff has been leaning against my wall for a while after I bought it, cause I got not trucks or anything with it. Didn't like the indy 215's from my supercharger on it, so I'll prolly end up getting some originals, but would the S6s or S8s be better for it since its fairly wide for its length??

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
As folks have pointed out in other threads, the hangar-width does not affect the turning radius. The geometry on all the Originals is the same, so they all turn the same. The difference is the leverage and the stability. S6 Originals will turn as sharp as S10 Originals, but the S10s will be more "solid" and harder to slip, slide or drift the rear end out.
For example, I have S6 Originals on a board with a 28" wheelbase and I can EASILY fishtail the rear end and slide it around. Fun stuff when I want a really "surfy" feel.
I also have S10 Originals on a board with a 29" wheelbase and it is REALLY hard to slide out those rear wheels. Fun stuff when I want rock-solid and stable control.
I'm pretty sure any of the Originals will fit on a Bustin' Spliff. The question becomes, how much stability do you want? If you want it to be quick and zippy, get the S6. If you want it to be a little more solid and controlled, get the S8.

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
I would think the S6's would be a better fit. Although the S8's might give better traction.
HOWEVER.
On such a short board they may be too much. You may have greater problems with sliding out and turning too quick. I ran my S6's on a 34" board and did have problems with the rear breaking loose pretty violently. If you do go with the Originals on your Spliff I strongly suggest you dewedge the rear at least 10*, but if you can I'd go more. And get some super soft and grippy wheels. Otherwise that should be a crazy carvy pumpy ride.
I would say go for some Bennett 5.0 or 6.0 with some softer bushings in them. I run some Bennetts with Tracker Hourglass bushings on that same 34" board that I was running my Originals on. I get pretty close to the carving I was getting with the Originals without the sliding out problems. I still dewedge the rear but that is mostly to help get better pumps out of it.

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
Looking at the Spliff's shape, it's got cutaways but they're pretty wide. Now, the thing about Originals is, they lean really, really far, and really, really easy. You will crank them all the way over, and if your setup isn't right, you'll get wheelbite when you do.
So you're gonna want to consider, how much riser are you comfortable running, vs. how wide a hangar are you comfortable with when it comes to pushing? Because I'll bet you could mount the S10 (250mm) trucks with no riser, but they really are wide and on a short deck like that, your kicking foot will be going past the wheel. S6 (150mm) will probably need a fair bit of riser, unless you're using really small wheels. S8 (200mm) are obviously in the middle somewhere.
Also, I'll add on to Sniffeless' advice re: the wedging at the back end..You might do some work at the front as well, get that truck back to level. Originals just don't need to be made more turny than they are naturally.
As for running Originals on that size deck, I run a set of S6 on a board with about a 25 inch wheelbase, and it's crazy fun. I wouldn't want to do any serious DH on it, but I'm loving it in in the parking garage. Don't be afraid!

Thanks for the replies. Can't you tighten them up a bit??

You can tighten them up, but they don't work the same way standard bushing trucks do. When you tighten standard trucks, they don't lean as far. When you tighten Originals, they will still lean all the way over if you want them to.. it just takes more effort to get them there. So, your setup needs to be bite-free by design, you can't just make it so by tightening a little bit more.
That's a down-side to the trucks; the up side is that your trucks will never, ever limit how tight you can carve. It's always easy to make any turn your skillset is up to, the trucks will never hold you back. (I'm assuming you're not going to be doing serious DH on a Spliff, of course- obviously other factors come into play if you're cornering at 45+ mph.)

I was planning on putting ZigZags or EW Road Rages but might I need a smaller wheel?? 62mm Alligators perhaps??

Hard to say without having the trucks and deck in hand. If you wanna measure the width of the deck at the inside mounting holes, I can play with my trucks and see what I think will fit, although I've only got a few sizes of wheels to try.

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
5.5" in back 6" in front.

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
I measured using 75mm wheels. S6 look like they will need the full .75" risers on your Spliff. S8 look like they could just barely clear the 5.5" end with zero risers, but they'd bite on the 6" end. So maybe .25" of riser or so to clear those. S10 trucks should clear with zero riser and zero bite. Switching down to 65mm wheels should save you around .25" of riser if you want to go there. Remember, Originals ride very low by themselves, much lower than Randals. So using some riser isn't as bad as it sounds initially.
All numbers approximate, no guarantees, don't sue me, blah blah blah. But I think that's pretty close. You might have to tweak the riser height a bit once you get the parts together and set it up, but this oughtta help you pick the trucks & wheels, anyway.
Let me know how it goes when you get it built!

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
Thanks a lot! Sounds like it should be fine with 66mms and S8s like I was planning, but I have risers that my supercharger really doesn't need just in case.

Cool, can't wait to hear how you like it.
One final note on the risers: If you're using risers other than the stock Original ones, you'll have to trim a little recess at one end to clear the locking flange on the truck. You'll see what I mean when you get 'em. If going without risers entirely, you'll have to remove a little bit of wood from the underside of the deck in that one spot. A lot of people just use a trimmed 1/8 riser to avoid doing deck surgery, up to you.

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
I just put my Spliff together with 75mm O'Tangs and Original S8s. I REALLY like it, lots of fun, quick turning, short - great for cruising around on. I plan to use it as my commuter and I couldn't ask for more!

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
I'd love to see a video of a Spliff with Original trucks on it. I have R2 180s and 71mm 'gators on mine, with soft Venom bushings. Nice and carvey, but I bet the Originals are absolutely sweet on it.

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
i think you need some seriously thick papers if you want to mount any truck on a spliff...
joke.
haha. errr....

Re: Originals on a Spliff??
I am still adjusting to the turning ability of the originals, but do far I like them a lot. Only been using the 70mm Superballs so far as that's all I had, just for the 66mm Road Rages tonight, hope to try them out tomorrow, assuming it stops raining.

That's almost exactly what I'm planning to do- Do you get any wheel bite with that setup? That's the only thing I'm worried about

How are they comparable to venoms on randals?
