Default Switching From Holeys To Randal And Need Advice

Right now I'm riding my FB Speed Carver with Holey's. I really like it, but I'm soon putting those Holey's on my Mosquito. I have been debating about putting either Randals or Bears on the FB, but that's not my question. My question is, if I get Randals and planned on buying some DH plates and r2 hangers, and where I use this more as a free ride board than a serious DH board, and liked the Holeys, would it make sense for me to purchase the 60 deg Randal plates? As far as I can tell they don't seem too common outside of luging. Would these new trucks be unusually high? Do you think a 60/50, 50/50 or 50/42 combo would be more appropriate? I could just get another set of Holeys, but I would like to change things up a bit but I have no real idea what to consider. I have searched. Thanks for your time.

edit: I ride my trucks real loose.

The only way to effectively evaluate all the whack-o combinations is to actually try them yourself. You will get no useful information asking for second-hand opinions about them on a message board.

I would say just go with the 50/50 or 50/42 (is what I ride). I've never ridden 60's but I imagine they would get pretty squirreley on you.

A big part of me knows that the only way to find out is to personally experiment, but I had hope people could share their experiences. I don't have a thick enough wallet to indulge.

never heard of people riding randal 60 plates...other than luge..

just get a pair of 50 randal
and a set of 42 plates..

just remember, 42 plates are low, but not 35...

May sound like a stupid question in the over stimulated "grass is greener" world of gear; but...

Why change a setup that works? If you like the Holeys on the FB, you have your answer. Would suggest holding off the next set of trucks until after you try your trucks on the new board. You'll have a better idea of what you want the board to feel like.

I ride wedged RII 50 degree plates all the time and so do a lot of others. If you have "never heard" of it then you need to get out more. Or maybe read the zillions of posts on the fish about wedging trucks.

Keep in mind that if you're "freeriding" there's a lot of potential to be riding backwards which means IME you will want your board symmetrical. I was using my Mosquito as 50/35 and it was fun but now as I get into standup slides more and stuff I went back to 50/50.

Read what easy said. I have had setups with all sorts of different combos. No one of them is "right." I change my mind over time. I even go back to setups that I used to have but got bored with. It all depends on what you feel like doing that day, what hill you are going to ride, how you feel like going down that hill. Maybe just the mood you are in.

Personally I think your current setup is really stupid. A 34 inch wheelbase is way too long for ("freeriding" LOL.) No wonder you like the Holeys on it. It's prolly the only way to get that aircraft carrier sized deck to turn.

Like easy said, put the Holeys on the Insect and check out that before you buy something else. that way you will have another data point before you spend any more money.

first of all, you need to chillax more, its bad for your blood pressure...

second, you need to put on your bifocals...

    I said 60deg plate.
    not 50 deg plate

those 60deg plates are $30 each on randal's website,

The point is that there is nothing unusual about front pivot angles greater than 50 degrees. And what makes you think that my statement is in any way related to my blood pressure? It sounds like you and Petary are the two old ladies whose blood pressure got raised by my comment. LOL!!!

Yo Evan...as u see lately, part of the big improvement on dh gear as been around the bushings.
Some time ago everyone was going on precision stuff and now u read a lot of paris with venoms combos and many other stuf...when paris came at frist time, i remember everyone saying they were more a carving truck than able to speed...nowadays, with proper bushing set, u cant take them to speed easily! This is what reading SF stuff shows...
My ride is with 50 randal 180, with barrels bushings from khiro, and they feel preety fine to me at decent speed...as i said on another topic, theres no other truck that has made more miles Downhilling compared to Randal...They sure are not top, but they handle it...

It just makes me sad to see that there's such a miserable person out there who can't make a positive post.

i use the term free riding very loosely. it's just a board to have fun on.

This is a very good point. And throwing some switch carves will make you a better skater.

Randal 50/42s should work very well..dropped through.....on the SpeedCarver.
    Bear 52/40s, too.

You can always tweak the bushings to your weight.
