Which Base plate angle is the best for carving?
Im currently planning on building up a loaded dervish and am torn between trucks. I have been reading up and haven't found exactly what base plate angles do.
so my question is
would the Grizzly bear 852's (55 degree) carve better than the randall (50 degree) or paris (50 degree) trucks.
i want a super carvy board for staying in controll and carving really hard. i won't be bombing any significant hills. im more concerned with turning really sharp and staying slow. maybe learning how to do some basic slides as well to help the whole slow and in control thing.
the rest of my build is
loaded dervish flex 1 (i weigh 185)
retro bigzig's 75mm 80a
abec 3 bearings
i want to go slow and in control.

Re: Which Base plate angle is the best for carving?
LOL you have those pretty mixed up my friend bears come in 52 and 40.randals in 50 42 and 35 and Paris are only 50. If your planning on just straight up carving I would say some Paris 180 depending on what board you have. Or if you ever plan on dh in the future some randal 50 are nice and stable but carve hard or if your cool like some people get two randal 50 base plates and throw Paris hangars on them. I tried it and now I will never change unless I get precisions
Because we ride hard and fast, slow and curvy. Through the crowds and cars, laughing as the auto-drones are clogged in the grid listening to cackling talk show radio dj's. We ride boards for the experience, the stoke, the idea that freedom is found in our surroundings, our back yards and streets.

Most carving trucks come with 50º plates. There is a very good reason for this.

Re: Which Base plate angle is the best for carving?
thanks guys, yeah i had some bad info... i had seen on the landyachtz website that paris's were 40 but i think it was a misprint.
so i took everyone's advise (including dan from daddies board shop) and got paris trucks.
holley's would have been awesome but daddies didn't have that as an option.
I ordered
2009 dervish flex 1
black paris 180's
75mm bigzigs 80a limes
daddies board shop bearings
bearing spacers
shock pad for dervish's
hope its fun and carvy

The higher the angle the tighter the turning radius.

Re: Which Base plate angle is the best for carving?
the higher the angle, the more turn to lean ratio. A lower degree truck requires you to lean much more to get the same amount of turn. in other words, higher angled trucks are more responsive and are better suited to carving etc

Until you get too high. My friend had Holeys on a board it 20ish degree wedging and the 80 degree trucks gave him no leverage. So don't go too high or too low, but in general, a high degree will give more turn.

Yeah, in my (quite limited) experience, I have ridden 42 and 50 degree Randals, Originals (45* I believe?), and Indy's. The Originals are best for carving but they don't count because the whole design is different. Of the rest, the 42* Randals win (IMO). They don't turn as much but they lean more, and to me carving feels more natural when the board leans a lot. Which is why I don't like Indy's. As turny as they are, they don't lean enough for me.
Does this make sense to anybody else? I could be talking nonsense, because it's very commonly accepted that 50ish degrees is the best for carving.
