3 inch grade 8 kingpin for randal 180 50* trucks

So I went to a hardware store and they only had 2.5 inch and 3 inch. The 2.5 stock one I find is a alittle too short so I got the 3 inch. It seems kind of long when I set it up, would there be any problems?

Depends on the bushings you're using.. reverse the king pin( Loknut at the hanger side and bolt head in the base plate.. ) If you have plenty of grond clearance you're fine.. Also.. a hack saw etc.. makes short work of modifying king pin lengths.. Be sure to put a nut, past where you cut.. and chase the threads with it afterwards

trim it down to 2 3/4".run a regular hex nut on the bolt,cut a 1/4"off using a hack saw.take your time and make sure it an even cut.then use a file or bench grinder and chamfer the end of the bolt.Now run your hex nut out,but not off back and forth a couple of times.this will clean up the end threads.when the nut threads smoothly your done.Now put that sucka in and ride brother ride!!!

Ill be running red venom barrels roadside and green barrels deckside. The guy at the store told me not to saw them but it sounds like ill need to. It seems very long

Go ahead and cut them,use a hack saw and go slow.You not going to get it hot enough to take the temper out.I have been doing this for a very long time & never had grd8 bolt break

A decent hardware store will have 2.75" grade-8 in 3/8 x 24tpi.

I'd just order some new 2.75" kingpins if your local store doesn't have them, they're like a dollar or two each at most online longboard retailers.

Just buy a 2.75" over at randal.com

Only $4 each. Hardly worth the work of cutting, threading, etc a hardware store kingpin.

I'm doing the same thing just with my 42randals. Just don't flip your kingpin and it'll be fine. At least it is for a drop. Thru.. Idk bout a topmount if that's what your using

Im in Canada, its a pain to order n wait. I already got the 3 inch ones today. Im running them flipped with the head in the baseplate. It looks like ill need to saw them. So I need to saw with the nut on?

Yes.. that way after you bugger up the threads, you unthread the bolt to clean the threads up.. And as stated earlier.. run the bolt up and down a few times if need be. But if you saw carefully with the threads.. It's a pretty neat job .

All the info you need on the cutting is in the first reply from Ogre. Read carefully , measure twice and cut once and all that.

i didnt measure right and bought 3" and it was a bitch because i had to run more washers just because there was so much thread to go through

milehigh was 2.75 and tall nuts which are plenty space
