An Unappreciated Wheel - The Blast Wave
Been looking on the Fish and there seems to be a lot of info on Speed Vents, but nothing really recent on Blast Waves. For me, they seem to be faster than the Vents with great traction. I have mostly ridden the 75As and am now testing the 79As.
Does anyone else have any experience with these?

Re: An Unappreciated Wheel - The Blast Wave
blast waves are slightly faster speed vents that slide better but dont grip as well. They still have great traction. Im actually planning to radius my vents tonight so they slide like blast waves but still grip well. Seismic wheels are underrated..

They're okay, I've ridden some for about 2 years. The slide could be better, it's really choppy under my 125 pounds. I like that they're fast, but my potangs are faster and have a better slide.

not to mention seismic wheels have been by far the smooooothest wheels ive ever ridden. I have the blue speed vents and its like riding a cloud.

Have you ridden the new BlackOps version or just the older Blast Waves?
How do the purple "potangs" wear? I have heard people say they ride well for a short period but wear out really fast?

Re: An Unappreciated Wheel - The Blast Wave
Waves and vents suck. They have really chattery choppy rides and drifts. I used to think it was the 'thane but even the blackops blow so maybe it is the design of the cores too.

Which duro have you used? What is your pavement like? on the Blast Waves.
I definitely disagree about the Vents - they aren't made for drifting.

exactly, but i would expand that even more, blastwaves as well arent made for drifting either.
If you look at the entire seismic line, half of it is geared toward pure grip. so if you're trying to slide them, ur in the wrong department. just because the blastwaves are radiused, doesnt mean they're for sliding and the like.
i think the main point of the blast wave was to create a much more responsive wheel without compromising grip.
i.e. for comparison, lemon zigs in comparison to lemon freerides have a COMPLETELY different feel. same urethane on the same set up, but the freerides turn much quicker and are way more agile than the zigz. same can be said about the speedvents vs. blastwaves.

except for the fact that zigs and freerides have different cores, while vents and waves have the same...
I find that my blast waves slide pretty smoothly. They didnt at first, but Ive had them for about 10 months, and I like them a lot.

purple blast waves are one of my favourite wheels. Did my first ever stand up 180 on those wheels, but they aren't as smooth a ride as something like an orange tang.

So far my experience seems different. The 75 A Blastwaves really have traction while the 79 and 83s seem to take it a step further. 79 grip and easier brake away and the 83 even better.

That seems interesting, since I saw that Zak Maytum won Sunday's Buffalo Bill Downhill competition on 77mm Speed Vents in 79A blue, beating out some of the best in the world, including IGSA #1-ranked Kevin Reimer (on Orangatangs)

I bet most of the motivation for Zak using those wheels was the $300 seismic was giving out for somebody to win on their wheels. Not to mention the fact that Zak probably rides this hill multiple days a week compared to Kevin riding it maybe a few times a year... If that.
Kevin was using some coned, worn down 4prez during the race sun while it was wet, which was probably one reason he didnt advance too far. He was rippin on saturday when it was dry.

I can't comment on motivation, just who won and on what.

I have the old 79a. My potangs wear okay, but my blastwaves have a really long life. I've only taken 5mm off them in 2 years. I'd rather have really fun wheels that don't last me as long rather than some that aren't very fun that last long.

So what? I don't give a big rat's ass what Zak rides. I've ridden them and I don't like them. Just like I've ridden Zak's bushings and do like them.

Re: An Unappreciated Wheel - The Blast Wave
Zak, Kevin, and all the other world class riders could rip on any wheel they want. Simple as that.

It seems that you missed my point.
