My wheels edges ( White 62 Cambria 84a)
Hey everyone, just wanted to ask a quick question. I recently got an apex 34, with a 62mm 84a white cambrias, i rode the wheels for two days, without any sliding, just carving and freestyle since I wanted to remove the shiny layer. Today I bust out a considerable amount of speedchecks, and the edges of the wheels are really rare, they are irregular, and they are missing some little pieces of the edges, I wanted to ask you guys what should i do? Should I keep sliding them till the borders lose the square lip? Should I stop sliding on them? I tried to take some pics, but the wheels are white, and you cant notice the lips!! Anyways they are little little chunks and cracks on the outside lip.
Thanks a lot guys!

you gotta take pictures with the flash off.
and if i were you i would try to radius the lips of the wheels if you want to keep sliding on them, chunking will probably get worse if you keep sliding them as is.

cambrias are great for pumping and cruising, designed with sharp edges that will chip when you slide -- you could choose from a lot of other radiused wheels for sliding. but if you really like the way that urethane slides then you could radius them on a grinder (with tons of ventilation of course...outdoor would be best)

I saw a video of how to radius them, I might take them to a hardware stuff where they carry the kinda driller that works with sand paper. Would that be a good idea? I'll explain carefully to the guy that use the machine, so he makes a good work. Also if I keep sliding the wheels, they are going to keep lossing chunks?

if you radius/round off the edges then they shouldnt chunk off anymore.

I'm not really sure how similar the Cambrias are to the Avalons, but my 80a Avalons slide very well on my timeline. I would just wait until they are a little better broken in until you slide them. If you wear them in a little the 'thane slides better and the edges are a little "used" to the riding IMO.

Thanks! I took a look at the avalons, and they are like the cambria but at 68mm. At the biggining did you lost some little chunks? and did the edges got irregular? I'm thinking about doing the radius thing, but I'm afraid of doing It wrong. Will there be serious repercussions on the riding if I don't do the radius perfectly?

Re: My wheels edges ( White 62 Cambria 84a)
well technically the avalons start at 69mm but from the way you ride them sounds like they'll be worn down to 66mm anyway
i wouldn't be too concerned with the precision of the work, especially if you're going to be sliding and wearing small imperfections down anyway. perfectly radiusing would be tricky and you might use a lathe/grinder for that. but I don't think you're going to notice small differences in the 1-2mm range for the sliding you're doing.
but just shaving off a few mm's of the outer lip can be done 'ghetto' style by drawing a stop-line, standing on the board, then slowly rolling and holding a grater on the edge of the wheel. there's a guy known as Pauliwog here in the NW that has the technique down pat, and provides a quick and free service like this at the slalom events. its pretty wild to see a line of urethane powder trailing the board when he does it.

I just radiused my 78a zigzags the "ghetto" way. I marked the inside and out by the width of a permanent marker tip. Then rolled down my street which is a slight incline and held some coarse sandpaper against it and shaped it accordingly. Its not exact to the mm but the definitely break loose now. It took me forever though going up and down the hill.
