Default What's wrong with my bearings?

I was switching out my wheels today and I noticed the rubber shields looked messed up. I thought I was denting them(I was using a paint can opener), but when I used the end of my trucks I was the same. They don't look dented really, they're sort of puckered and warped like they got melted. What happened?

Not sure WHAT happened exactly, but i'd suggest you take the bearings apart, make sure they arn't seizing or something of that sort. Obviously heat caused from a seized bearing could cause potentially cause some warp. clean them re assemble and check if they dont look better. Also if they are some real cheap bearings and you don't feel comfortable skating on them after they start to look kinda funny then you can always buy some new ones.

    Is WD-40 the culprit?

No WD-40. They actually haven't been cleaned at all yet, I need some oil. I got them from Tattoo Skate when they had them cheap on Ebay. I wanted to try some different bearings, but they weren't really worth it. The stock oil is awesome though. Could it just be from the temp outside? It's been pretty hot here.

I'm in Jersey, it's been hot few days...but not bearing seal melting hot. Heh.

Is it possible something was causing friction within the bearing which in turn caused the rubber on the seals to melt or pucker?

Sorry, no digital. But they look like someone shrink wrapped the shield, you can see each of the balls.
