Pool/park/cruizin wheels for a mini
Can anyone recommend me some wheels for a Gravity mini lions suitable for cruising around but also hitting the parks or riding some smaller bowls resonably often.
What kind of size and durometer am I looking for? I was looking at the 90A Tunnel Rocks which have a great rep, but are they gonna be too hard for riding pavements on the way to Uni. Anyone ridden them before?
cheers

Re: Pool/park/cruizin wheels for a mini
get two sets of wheels. every wheel is a compramise. 90a would be slow in the park and rough on most concrete. you want at least 95a for most parks IMHO.
if you get two specalized wheels you'll be stoked for both applications. if you shoot for the middle you will be disappointed all around.
that said abec 11 60mm 78a no schools, 62mm bennette alligators or 64mm 85a powell wheels would be a good comparise.
ideally if i were you i'd get 66mm zigs or gravity burner wheels for crusing, and a 60mm 95a powell bowl bombers or something similar for pool/park. << this would work much, much better than one set of wheels for both.

Re: Pool/park/cruizin wheels for a mini
Thanks thats pretty comprehensive!
Getting two sets of wheels is wheels dependent on funds really. Also, I have a decent set of 70mm cruisers I could use kicking about, but if I was to buy a dedicated set of 60-65mm park wheels I'd prob have to change the risers each time as well which is a bit more of a pain in the ass.
I'm in Scotland so stuff imported from the US tends to be kinda pricey which is why I was hoping someone clever had come up with an all round wheel I could get. The abec 11's or the bennets are prob a good option for me!

the bennets are more pricey than the abec 11's but are worth it!! the yellow 84a deserve consideration, or the orange 79a. i'm riding the orange right now and its one of my favorite wheels i've ever ridden

Clear green 62mm 78a Alligators for cruising, 59 or 62mm Rainskates Tsunamis in 95a green for the park and pool. Done and done.

Freerides at 72mm would probably be too big for the mini lions

Actually with the Tunnel Rocks being so wide and distributed load, the softer 90a durometer works very well in parks. I am running a set on an old Jay Adams as well as on a 27" solid wood kick. Both board really fly, seriously. Where as a modern narrow 90a wheel would be very wishywashy. the 95a tunnels feel like serious rocks and flew, but the 90a gave up very little in speed but goined some in usability on rougher terrain.
The 90a tunnels feel ok on the street. If you are looking at tunnels seriously, the 90a might work pretty well for you, but the amber 84 would be better on the street for sure. What you really need (does not exist) would be a set of 88a tunnels. that might work very well.
A great wheel that really bridges the gap and runs very well nearly everywhere is the 86a yellow cambria (or the seismic 62mm equivilant, whatever its called). I have ran thru all the durometers on those, and the 86a's just work darn well everywhere. I ran some 94a's on a 70's resto, and it really flew too. they are a little grippy in parks, but the speed is completely adequate. Once agian its all in the footprint. an 86a modern wheel would be a total joke on tranny and roundwall.
Other possibilities are 88a/90a no skoolz, and a whole host of others that you know all about anyway.
My comments represent a selfishly one sided 1970's skateboarder mindset, and do not reflect the current fashion-skate-lifestyle industry's views.

I like the old school style of the bennetts as well.
another question! do wheels roll differently on wood compared to concrete? theres a big indoor skate park nearby with wooden ramps and bowls which I'm gonna go check out in the next few days.

Cheers dude thats really helpful!
Has anyone out there ridden the Loaded fat free's yet. Any thoughts on how they might be on a mini setup or in the park.
Last I heard loaded were going to bring out their newest line in higher durometers. Is that still the case?

Re: Pool/park/cruizin wheels for a mini
I would go with some powell bombers or rat bones, i have them on 4 set ups and they rock. I would also say between 85_90a.
hope that helps.
