Default The best wheels for Super rough roads?

I need the best wheel for super rough roads. Wheel bite is not a problem and sliding is not a preference....I want a wheel for commuting on the roughest streets in America....A safe wheel, that handles cracks and rough parking lots....lol..... In addition, it needs to mantain momentum per push and some what smooth out the ride...

75mm 72a Avilas without a doubt. Best rough pavement wheel out there. Can make possible riding on asphalt roads with super rough aggregate that other wheels can't handle. They are also a large enough diameter that they can handle big cracks in concrete relatively well. Also have a huge amount of urethane (as the man said "one-half pound per wheel") that helps conserve a lot of angular momentum when pushing along. Cushy ride too.

I ride 75a gumballs on my KS scimitar. I also live in washington state, where the rain rips up the roads pretty bad, and I can subjectively say that they smooth out the roads very nicely. They have plenty of thane depth for absorbing shock and have a nice roll speed.

If wheelbite really is no prob whatsoever, maybe go with some enormous flywheels. As far as I know, they only have a bit more depth than the gummies thanks to the big cores, and they might be a pain for pushing around on and carrying into class etc.

You want any big soft wheel with good rebound and compresable rims like pink bigzigs or er, pink bigzigs. Maybe orange 77mm speedvents, although I don't think they have the depth of 'thane that the zigs have cause they have a bigger core.

I think you are right....The flywheels are huge and expensive....the core is gigantic...The pink ones look like the ones to beat....but they are "pink"....Not the right color for my gangsterism...lol

if you want to hold your momentum the Purps might be too soft. Its a compromise for sure but I'm not really into stuff thats softer than pink bigzigs for that reason. It took me a while to figure it out but there is such a thing as too soft. I'm pretty sure the purps are the softest wheels around but there's a reason everybody doesn't cruise on them. They'd probably be a good set to have around but I'm not sure if I'd get them if I was only gonna have one set. Tunnel Tarantulas are 75a, just to put up another option.

How would these be on a LDP? I can see that they handle pavement well, but are they slow?

Admittedly I have never tried the 90mm, but I have had Flys and they were anything but cushy on roads. Even well paved roads.

the problem with flywheels is that they're obscenely expensive for how versatile they aren't.
most of the other wheels listed here are better suited for more than just rolling over bad pavement

edit: 76mm 78a and 75a flys an exception, rad all-around wheels (still too expensive, though)

never ridden giant 90mm flys, however i can vouch that both the 74mm s9 race form 78a and the pink big zigs are both very cushy rides. they got so much thane that they can gobble up rocks, gravel, cracks that stop other wheels, small children, and small woodland critters.

fly wheels core is 45mm though so you only got 22.5 mm of thane between ground and core. where as the small core shape like the race form and the big zigs have about 25-26mm of thane. the extra thane means rolls over things smoother, but the giant size of the 90mm flys will mean that they roll over cracks big enough that you would be able to catch your foot in and break an ankle.

easy no questions asked 90mm flys or some avilas i have both and they both go forever after a push way longer then pink zigs which is what my buddy rides on. Its basically no competition in my eyes its just 90mm flys or some avilas.
Cant we all just get a longboard?

I've got the red 76mm Hawg Monsters on my 60" cruiser running over pretty rough terrain and I love the ride. I think they're around 78 or 80 durometer - pretty basic, but the cores are quite small leaving lots of tire. I weigh around 220 lbs so even hard wheels get a little squishy with me on em'.

Also, I have a set of 85mm Aqua Hawgs that I totally hate cause' their so slow and mushy. They have grooves cut around the wheel for supposedly better grip in the rain. I'll bet they'd be great on super rough roads though. Maybe that'd be a good use for them...
