I've owned these wheels for about 4 months now and i just rode them for a few weeks to break them in before i did any serious sliding.
After a resent slide outing i then rode some concrete. That in turn cleaned the blacktop off of the wheels revealing 1/2" to 1" long splits and cuts in the contact patch.
Some are near the edges and i fear that continuing to slide them will make the cuts longer and cause the edges the chunk.
Did i do something wrong in the "break-in period" that would cause this? Has anyone out there had similiar experiences?
do not own zigs but I would say contact the company. wheels should not do that, they might send you a new set due to the poor craftsmanship on the set you own.

i chunk wheels all the time. thats what happens when you slide slalom wheels that arent well broken in abec is usually pretty cool about stuff like that but dont be surprised if they say that

im assuming the "cuts" run from one lip to the other but if thats the case that can happen simply from sliding uneven asphalt or hitting small bits of gravel that rip across your wheel.as long as you dont continually slide gnarly asphalt they should just wear off in a couple of weeks.
Here's a few photos of the zig zags in question. It's 3 different wheels pictured, if i give them a little pinch i can separate the urethane to reveal a 1/8" to 1/4" deep split.
I'm considering emailing these pics to ABEC 11. What do ya'll think?

I would email then what is the worst they could do say "NO!!!" then all you have wasted would be 15 minutes tops. Or they say "oh sh1t that shouldn't have happened, have a new set of wheels."

I got some really bad ones even worse than that in my avilas and seismic told me to deal with it.

I had the exact same thing happen to my lime zig zags, and I contacted them, and sent a picture. I got one free wheel and some free stickers. I recommend you do the same!
really? i chunked my seismics and they gave me 40% off a new set
yeah but i have the purple skunk ones so i couldnt get a new set through them. it was only one wheel, so they feel fine, but ill not buy such a soft duro again.

83a pretty good duro . its just the hard(square ) lip . they arnt (ment) for sliding but we all do it.
if you carry on it will chunk out. you could always lathe the edges off = good freestyl'n wheel
Mr. Pinky says get over it. Just kidding, actually I did this on my OSD somehow. I don't think it had anything to do with sliding, I must've hit a gnarly pebble. Surprisingly I didn't even notice until I got home. Think they'll replace it for me? I thought it was just part of the game we play.
Well maybe i'm missing something here but in seems almost every loaded sliding video i see they are sliding hard-edge otangs or inheats. You'd think that they wouldn't encourage the misuse of wheels.
Using that as an example, it leads me to believe that these cuts aren't caused by sliding.
Now that i think about it i had a set of 75a Flashbacks, on which i did no sliding, that had the same cuts, they eventually chunked. But their long gone so it's hardly worth mentioning.
pink zig zags or big zigs chunk like crazy. my freind has a pair that he broke in for 6 months and then he slid them , one slide and every wheels chunked in 4 places

I've noticed that as well. I wonder what the orange 4prezs looked like after they slid them so much on the dancer video (seemingly just to prove that they could).
