Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
A wheel that size will not be benifitial to your ride 83mm is as big as i will go any bigger and it wont make a diffrence and it could possibly bend your hanger. they can be good for push races i guess?

Have you seen them in person or used them? It's like riding an apartment building. Not bad, just... a lot.
Ironspork: But isn't the point to "pimp" your "lowrider" longboard, and get hyphy on that sh*t?!

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
well... you already seem to know its a bad idea... but here are some things to think about...
make your board too high
im pretty sure the drift of them would suck, too much floppy urethane
too expensive
might get wheel bite depending on the board
bend you axles probably
im sure other people could go on...

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
For what board? Have you consdiered S9 race formula 81mm 78 or 82 duro. Cost way les than a 90mm flywheel and the performance is sweet.

i am riding a 41.5" board, i am upgrading from the stock equipment it came with, i am going to buy R-II 180mm trucks, and i need advice on the best bearings and the best wheels, for mainly a flatland ride, i ride around 2-3 miles on average a day, i loike to hit pretty big hills but not too big or even too often. wheel size doesnt matter in terms of wheel bite because i am cutting my board becasue of it.

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
if its just for pushing around you should be fine with 83mm... they roll better and longer..

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
70mm is fine for most topmounts.
If you ride a drop thru or drop deck larger wheels may be wanted.

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
well, nobody told me and I got a set. (dunno why)
They've only been on my KS Scimitar so far. Nooooooo problems. It was still a low, easy pushing ride. All I've done is carve up and down the street and ride this little grade around the corner though, no slides or other hard riding.
Why would the axles bend just because of a bigger wheel? If there was some kind of wheel that would just sit on the end of the axle (requiring spacer(s) between the bearing and hangar face) then I could see a greater possibility of bendage (I can say that on Thursday). See what I mean?
... almost sprained my finger due to speed wobble (Fusrodah)
... wheels need to be round to roll well. (aloysius)

^ ^ thanks, I'll do that.
I just copy the line from the address bar while I have the thread open I want to link then paste that into the thread. I'll go search and do likewise here.

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
Ok, I failed to find the exact thread you were to referring to and stopped with the 5 page thread below. Read that all the way through. Eventually Pavedwave and Leadfoot chime in with observations worth noting.
Overall, it looks like the 97mm wheel question is a recurring topic on the fish. There are different camps of thought. From ones who say it's overkill, those who continue to say how the increased height of the wheel increases the leverage and results in bent axles (although I don't remember any of them siting personal experience) to those who say just DO IT if you're so inclined. A little more effort to push up to speed and a different set of challenges if you put them on a topmount. Like I said, I've actually used them on my Scimitar. Sticks, stones, bones and tar snakes be damned when I'm in the monster truck stance. I pity the poor foo-foo that darts out of the yard for some ankle snapping. We can pretty much roll over the garden variety dustmop pooch.
What are the 97mm wheels good for?

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
Only if you have a dh race those wheels maybe ok but with any other board you will be to high off the ground and then you will be angry with your self for buying them.

Re: Someone please talk me out of buying 97mm wheels
If you buy em and don't like em I'll take em off your hands. But not at full retail.
