Default Wierd Bones Speed Cream Question

Ok. so i have a wierdish story. yesterday i cleaned my bearings and i have a wierd question.

so i removed the shields and just washed them with warm water and then set them out to dry. then i put the bearings on the bones cleaning kit rod on the bottle and so i shook it for about 45 sec. while it was filled with acetone. so then i took them off, wiped them down and sprayed them with canned air and a blowdryer. I held the center with my fingers and they were spinning good and now, this is the WEIRD part, i put two drops of speed cream on each bearing and they stopped spinning as good. and so i let them sit out and dry completely and then i put the shields back on and then them back in the wheels. WHY WOULD SPEEED CREAM DO THIS? does it have something to do with acetone and the speed cream or what? thnx for any replies. sorry for the longish post

    BTW i have Bones Reds

well your adding a liquid to the bearing so thats going to slow it down slightly. but the important thing is that it is also slowing down the wear of the bearing.. keep the cream in it.. you wont notice the difference when your riding anyways

^ this man is right. Your bearing is going to run smoother/ quieter for longer because of it.
Don't rely on how long a bearing spins to determine if it is going to be faster or not. Pretty much any bearing you use is gonna work fine as long as it runs smooth.

agreed. and bearing lube always does that. if you read the paper they give you they say that it needs some time to break in.

Yea I just go some speed cream today. It says right in the instructions that the bearing will appear slower, but the speed cream help to maintain the life of the bearings. It also cuts down on noise a hell of a lot.

I actually just used paint thinner, it evaporated super quick, not as fast as the brake parts cleaner but somewhere in the 20-30 second range. then i just used some air in a can as an extra precaution, in case anything was left behind.

The last thing you want to do is roll with no lube. You put oil in the engine of your car right??

Well we'll asume it was a 12 molar solution

And I dont think (PLEASE correct me if im wrong) that water would be that bad for bearings as long as they're rinsed with other solutions afterwards.

When I clean my bearings, I usually use warm tap water to just get rid of all the large chunks of dirt offf the sheild and stuff. Then I shake them around in mineral spirits for a few minutes, then shake around in 91% alcohol, then blow dry.

I cant imagine the water at first harms the bearings at all.

I think water would only harm the bearing if they were exposed for a prolonged period of time. I was recently at a race, and it was raining during the race and I just let my bearing air out when I got home and they were fine.

The instruction paper with the Speed Cream addresses this issue, explains it, and tells you not to worry.

Way to read the isntructions for a product you don't understand.
