    Default Need Wheel Selection Help

Old fart from back in the day here so please bear with me...

I need to build a new board for street/commuting purposes and I'm not familiar with what's currently available. My favorite wheels have always been Kryptonics 70mm red (78a). I still have a stash of new 12 year old wheels, but they are currently 1400 miles away.

About 15 +/- years ago I had a pair of quad skates built and the shop sold me some other brand of wheel that had 78a durometer. They were nowhere near as fast as the Kryptonics. I think the lack of rebound made the difference.

So, I see Kryptonics still sells 78a wheels, but I've read the formula is different. I'm looking for 70mm plus wheels that have similar performance characteristics to the old red Kryps. I am on a pretty tight budget and really don't have the money to "try" more than two sets.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Hi Sylas, I'm also an old Krypto fan.....though I ended up on Road Riders for some reason...

Yes the newer Kryptos are a different formula. The quoted closest to the original red are either the Abec11 Flashbacks or the Retro ZigZag/BigZig in pink. However the favored free ride/cruising wheels right now have a different shape to them. I would suggest figuring out exactly what you want them to do and see what out of the current crop come closest...
