Cool New wheels on the Nemi

I noticed there's hardly active threads with Seismic wheels. They must be the redheaded step child of wheels on the fish or something... Oddly, my local shop staff loves them and pushes them pretty hard over everything else although they'll sell you want ever you want. Just think it's interesting you never really hear much of anything else on the fish other than abec11 or Otangs.

So anyways, I wanted a new big wheel but decided to take a chance on these. I have to admit, definitely one of the coolest looking wheels i've ever come across.

    Before:

    After:

    Close up side by side:

I was looking for a general all around cruise wheel, something I can leave on as my default since I use my board for commuting and trail riding alot and it always seemed 75mm wheels and smaller lost alot of speed on sidewalk cracks and general non-smooth pavement that's so common here in the yay area. This duty used to be covered by 90mm flys. In fact that's been my wheel of choice up until I purchased a hellcat and nemesis. With those two boards I made a change and equipped them with Otang in-heats & durians. Of course these speed vents are night in day when compared with those.

So how do they compare to 90mm flys (the standard from which I was so used to)? First impressions is that they feel harder than expected for being 75a wheels but tacky like a soft duro would. I guess it's because it has a bigger core? The difference between the two is like a mountain bike with slightly under inflated tires (the flys) vs a properly inflated or perhaps over inflated tire (the speedvents). So far I like em. But that could be because it's a refreshing change (sorta like a new girl friend ), and doesn't really have anything to do with one being "better" than the other.

Regarding the durability comparison of the two, I guess time will tell. But the Flys are virtually indestructable and have lasted since I've gotten in to the sport. Even with bad sliding techniques from when I was just learning to slide. They don't even seem to wanna flat spot. My guess is these speedvents won't be as durable. Hell I don't even know how they will slide since they aren't center set so this weekend should be interesting.

Surprisingly yes. I should make a video of it. First thing that popped into my head when i dropped them once on the kitchen tile. A misshaped high bounce ball. Try it

your local shop that pushes seismic wheels wouldn't happen to be Black Diamond Sports would it? if it is, they have a good selection but their knowledge of other products is sub par and their salesmanship is not the best. the products they love are Loaded, seismic, and bones swiss. they push these on everyone, im pretty sure because at the end of the day its the dollar that matters most.

any ways sorry about the thread jack

sick wheels, seismic has a really cool look. let us know how they feel because your right, seismic is the least reviewed wheels here it seems

Indeed it is Black Diamond Sports. It's funny you were able to name the exact store. And yah, exactly as you said, they were even pushing bone swiss on me as well but I prefer Biltins regardless of being told they are "slow" (i can't tell a difference if my life depended on it and they are convenient). I always suspect the same thing when a salesmen seems to favor one product over all others... is it profit margin or does this person genuinely think this brand/product is far better.

This is why I finally decided to take this chance and see for myself. I'll be sure to give em a good ripping this weekend. If they chunk after one weekend I'll be PISSED. I have yet to chunk any wheel since I started longboarding and it'll be highly unlikely that it was just chance.

dan at seismic knows his stuff and his products are really good, though over priced imo. i havent tried anything for dh, but i heard that they grip very well. i doubt they'll chunk too bad if at all, let us know how they work out after our weekend of shredding.

and BDS is the best store in the general area, i worked there for a bit and john and konstantine both told me that they push loaded. their reasoning was because "we want people to have the best experience, and loaded offers that" (something along the lines of that). i was at a loss for words after hearing that. i believe the best boards are the ones under our feet, regardless of price tag.

but ill continue to go there to check out new boards because their selection is good and they know me so they don't try to push sales on me

I had 85 vents on my nemesis for a good while. They go together quite nicely. No bite on 42 plates with super loose bushings. I don't know how drop through will work... but I don't think there will be a problem. I have kryptos on it now.

I think vents are great, except for the price. They are far too expensive when compared to earthwing and abec/retros and gravities.

Edit: I should also mentioned I've never owned new seismics.

i like my drop through nemesis allot, minus the railbite. had to go with huge fat bushings to help with that. the only thing that turns me off from seismic is the price.

I see... so basically the only thing holding Seismic back is the price otherwise they're a decent wheel. Interesting. The trucks however are scoffed at right? I hear even less about Seismic trucks than i do their wheels.

Oh and yah I don't even get close to wheel biting. I think I still have another half inch of room. But then again this is on 42 degree plates with big ass jimZs which i've noticed limit your trucks full turning potential. I may slap in some bitch bushings later just to see if I get some bite but that's never really been an issue for me, as long as the wheel bite isn't excessive. You can always limited how much your hanger swings around by putting an over sized bottom washer. An old trick I'm sure most riders here know of, the hangers just collide against the washer before the wheel touches the board.

Seismic is also notoriously under-hyped, which when you consider price doesn't help them.

ya the seismic trucks aren't really talked about here. not surprising though considering a lot of this site is dominated by dh oriented riders. and seismic trucks are out performed by other trucks (randal, paris, precisions, etc)

also the trucks are a hit or miss thing. the springs are a totally different feeling than bushings, though they aren't too bad for cruising and pumping.

Abreviating nemesis, wouldn't it be neme instead of "nemi"? Irrelevant... Wheels for nemesis anyone got shockers on one? I love my rf looking for a wheel to meet similar standards

One of my favorites is the 73mm Speed Vent, great grip and the wheel feels incredibly light (fast), but you don't hear too much about that wheel either.
