Good carving wheels
So, I've been having trouble figuring out a good carving wheel. I slide a little, but I'm totally cool with changing out my wheels if I need to slide. Are Grippins good? Or Gumballs? Somebody said something about BigZigs? What's good for carving and cruising around my city, maybe hitting up Mt. Tabor for those who know it, or whatever?

It depends on the durometer of the wheels. I have nineballs. 75mm and 78A. they grip really well.
Do or do not, there is no try.

I was thinking a fatty wheel, yeah. Wait, is durometer the hardness of the wheel? Sorry, I'm new.

Yeah its the way that they measure the softness and hardness of the wheel.

Re: Good carving wheels
basically anything with a lip i.e. zig zags/ big zigs, gfh fatties, 3dm avalons
just try to get something that fits without wheel bite. the whole point is that you can turn as far as possible and not drift out and put in hard carves like snowboarding or surfing.
and yea softer=grip hard=slip
and harder is usually faster.
edit: 75a is pretty soft, 98a is really hard.
78a is a good hardness for all around
i wouldnt go above 81a for just carving personally.

He's right, anything soft, and fatty. Just be aware if you use any wheels that have a sharp lip, you run the risk of landing on your face when trying to slide.

Re: Good carving wheels
I got some grippins a while ago and haven't had a lot of opportunities to ride them, but I'm loving them so far. I got 78a and they are definitely plenty grippy. I think I heard, though, that if you get a little but harder like 81a that they slide real nice once you break em in. Haven't tried sliding yet though, so I couldn't tell you.

Re: Good carving wheels
Would a 75a be too soft for hard carving (i.e. Tunnel Turantula)? In my mind, I was thinking that the softer wheel would help dig into carves more.

Re: Good carving wheels
Most of guys at tabor have big zigs. Good wheels
At the top of a hill at a very rapid speed there's only one place to go.
At the top of a hill at a very high speed there's nowhere to go but down.

A 75a wheel would be a great carving wheel. I ride 78a's and they are super grippy. The difference is trade off between speed and grip. A 75 will grip a little better than 78 but the latter will be a touch faster. If you are on a really turny truck be sure you don't get to large of a wheel.
What's been stated as far as the edge of the wheel and sliding is completely accurate. Decide whether you want to throw in some stand up slides or not as you are carving and this will determine whether to buy a wheel with some roundness to it or not.

Re: Good carving wheels
are 75a wheels gud for sliding? altho, i hear that harder wheels are better for sliding...
Before you judge someone, take a 1,000 mile walk in their shoes. That way, you'll be 1,000 miles away from them, and you'll have their shoes

A higher durometer wheel is usually favored for sliding, usually 80a and up. Also another thing to keep in mind (however correct me if I'm wrong) is that most 75a wheels are slalom wheels, shaped with lips designed to keep grip an not break traction.
