Re: Mixing Wheel Size
just use a wedge riser set to wedge the front, and de wedge the back.

yes and no. there is a forward rake but they compensate any dewedge in front by having a wedged nose. so it is similar but not quite the same.

Re: Mixing Wheel Size
yes Yandall's post are nutty, but in a good way. i wish i was down in San Diego so i can meet these guys. also wish i could afford some of John's Craftsmanship. so how do you like those hourglasses bushings. are those just bennetts filed down to an hourglass? i really like how both John and thane are working to make the bennett a nicer truck. bennetts work so wonderfully. i have them on my dancer just so i feels more nimble and responsive. i want it to go, then it goes, no guessing if i can make that sharp turn.

Re: Mixing Wheel Size
Upon trying this wheel setup Ive discovered I need new wheels.
No, but really the setup didnt look ridiculous and barely even raised the back end of the board (flush cut subsonic raven) I found it allowed my back end to drift, while the avilas always maintained grip. However the start up and braking speed is the same as if I was riding all 90mms. I think I should probably just buy some durians.
Good news is during all this experimentation I found a awesome bushing setup. Khiros front truck: red top, blue bottom rear truck: Blue top, red bottom

Re: Mixing Wheel Size
I've rode shortboards with different wheels. You will notice a difference when you push because your foot will be at an angle instead of flat. It will probably fatigue your leg muscles quicker. As far as going faster, I didn't notice a speed difference. I doubt you will either. If anything, it will city commuting more awkward on a sidewalk.
I vote bad idea, though many will disagree. Try it and let us know.

Re: Mixing Wheel Size
Screw it! If Mike won't, I'll do it but if you're gonna do it, do it big or stay in the chair, right?
I don't know which dropthrough I'll mess with but I'll put 93's or 97's on the back. Ha!! Maybe the 46" Scimitar. It's been a guinea pig for so many things.
If it's quit raining and dried up this afternoon, I'll do it with pics then. Otherwise, I'll definitely do it Wed.

Re: Mixing Wheel Size

Experimenting with different styles, different stances and varying wheel sizes has recently culminated into this 22" POD from Galac that makes for a fun outting around the basketball court riding, pumping, switch foot pumps and general aerobic exercise without all the fluff of going straight fast and making screeching switchback turns by a hair of one's chinny chin chin.
You blokes take this stuff too serious! get on it, try it and if the trucks fits, skate it! I like this thread because mixing front wheels makes sense. for my style of riding, i get a low profile for my front trucks when I want it. being lower to the ground at times is better than higher but this is not desirable for my style where I'm all over the board, switching stance and pump along with switch push. pushing from a higher position gives me more leverage and I like it but at the same time for long distances I'll move closer to the front of the board and experience a low profile push. The board tilted forward also adds more of front truck tilt for more explosive cranking front weight forward turning for my style. It also promotes a forward lean for long distance riding, YES! LEAN FORWARD BABY!
So bottom line is for my style of riding the flats, I live the variable wheel size set up. makes sense to me. you? been riding variable wheel sizes since the 70's . .this ain't new for me.

Re: Mixing Wheel Size
Hey, that's a cool looking ride. I gotta try something like that just for grins.
Windy as all get out but the rain stopped and street mostly dry when I got home.
I grabbed the Landy Drop wedge which already had 93m/78a's on it, so I put a set of 70m Smokers on the front. Ha! It was kind of weird. Definitely a difference in the pushing quality. The first tentative pushes it'd start to roll and when I put weight on the front truck it was like it wanted to stop. I turned around and went down the grade with the wind. I know I need to change the bushings in those 852's. Lean and stop. I tried it switch putting the big wheels up front and it actually felt pretty good. Rain chase me off the street. I think tomorrow is going to be fairly nice. I'm going to change bushings and swap the big wheels around to the front and play some more.

Looks like the mexican skateboard... Just like their cars driving around santa ana with their spare tires up front and mudders out back... Pretty lame, but to each his own...

Re: Mixing Wheel Size
@IMG - I like it! Grapey Apes? Just about my favorite wheel.
I'll try that same set up on something, except I don't have the kryptos. What's the duro on those?
So basically a harder duro and smaller contact patch on front and the plush grippiness on the back?
I've got a set of drifters unemployed at the time. Maybe put them up front and grapes on the back.
sheesh.... I was fixing to go to bed due to an early rise tomorrow. I think I hear the garage calling me.
