    Default slide wheels...

ok so i have a landyachtz dropcarve with Bear Grizzly 852 trucks, currently set at the 47 degree angle, with monster hawgs, and im wondering what wheels are good for learning to slide, starting with a coleman slide and speed cheques. anyone got any suggestions? or do i just have to break the hawgs in?

break your current wheels in. they'll be easier to slide once the lips start to lose their edge. or if you're impatient, sand them down.

however, should you decide to get new wheels just for sliding, choose those which have rounded lips/edges.

    - otang/retro freerides
    - S9 centerset (black cored) wheels
    - venom sidewinders

    list goes on...

retros are easy to slide on since they are smaller, Orangatang durians come sanded down so you can literally slide them right our of the box, those are two i have ridden and the only difference between the two i noticed is size the durians being much larger then the free rides but go with 83 thats plenty enough duro to slide and its more controlled of a slide

truck set ups vary from rider to rider, so use what is comfortable for you at speed.

best to try learning the Coleman Slide first, you'll get the idea of the motion, foot placement and style.

type Coleman Slide on youtube for a video.

type Big Stand Up Slides and Slide Help by LoadedNewsletter. they'll help a lot.

    good luck!

Okay first, if i were you, i would unflip your Grizzlies. I had the 52* bears before and flipped they just felt awful to me. to each their own i guess, but unflipped they are totally agile and stable. people rock 50* plates for downhill all the time.

monster hawgs are supposedly really terrible for sliding from what i hear...

If you can drop the money, the otang stimulus in 83a are super dope.

I really really want to try out the Slashers ... these.

based on the review by Wells, they're like a krypto, wear not too bad, slide great, and break out great. i'd get these.

Gravity Drifters in 83a also seem great. on my "want to buy" list as well, after the slashers though. Ton swears by them.

3/3 sets of driferts ive seen in person have had the swirl that makes them wear unevenly. i wouldn't reccomend drifters.

I have 86a Retro Freerides and 89a ZigZags. Either of these will work. Lol, they'll slide way more than you anticipate; it was a good thing for me, I grew to like the early release and buttery slide feeling.

The free-rides are great though. I've done nothing but slide them for months with only the tiniest smidgen of insignificant coning you've ever seen.
    I love longboarding. Especially slope-style free-riding. Mmm.

I bought a set of the Otang. yellow Durians 75mm. They are possibly the best slide wheel I have personally skated. They have just enough grip to keep me pinned down, but when I slide, I slide for days. They are icy slick with absolutely no chatter to them. You can hold standy's so much longer and when they hook back up its smooth as butter. Set up with my Randals, blue Khiro's, and Bones, I can't seem to keep the board straight!! If you can't tell, I'm itching to get some more time on these wheels!

Two foot, ten foot.... the funs the same, all I'm looking for is a smile.... and it's riding a board that does it for me, it's not necessarily the size.

Swirls don't mean uneven wear, as far as I know

    Could be wrong though.

swirls are caused my tar (black stuff mixed with asphalt) from roads... they create swirls because you're moving sideways while the wheel is moving forwards/backwards in a slide.

swirls don't cause uneven wear, it's sliding and putting uneven weight on your wheels that cause uneven wear.

hm ok, makes sense. i wonder why my drifters got such bad swirls compared to my race forms, probably slid the race forms more too, they're smaller. (all of this on the same pavement).

perhaps durometer of the wheel might come into play with the variations in swirls given that they're all used on the same pavement. that, however, i'm not sure of.

i'd like to try it but haven't broken in my raceforms yet.

Agreed on the swirls, I just slapped a pair on my complex, and anytime i throw hefty-er slides on any kinda of nice pavement i get those nice juicy discolored patches.
They were a little terrifying at first.

They wont slide great. 78a will slide but will be much harder to slide than higher duros. I have some 83a Durians for sale if you want them.

78a abec 11 thane slides like ####### BUTTER.

smooth ass chalky thane that leaves beautiful thane marks.

they don't like to hold out very long in slides, but there is zero chatter, jsut pure smooth sliding.

That is what I was saying. They will be harder to break loose and to keep sliding.
