I love my Retro Zig-Zag 89a Orange Plus
So I got some 89a Orange Plus Zig-Zags with my Nemesis about a week ago. I love these wheels. They break traction easily, but it feels controlled. Until I want to slide, I stay stuck to the ground. The slide is just...butter. I am a very light person though (140lb).
Anyone else have experience with the Retro 89a thane? I was nervous to buy them because I couldn't find any discussion pertaining to them, but am now glad I did. I still need to get some softer duro wheels soon for Dh'ing, I don't think that my 86a big's, 89a zigs, or 86a freerides will cut it lol. Maybe some 77mm 83a speedvents next.
I love longboarding. Especially slope-style free-riding. Mmm.

I had some of those bad boys. Its a great felling being able to pull back tweaked speed checks at 25 mph, and the thane last FOREVER.

Re: I love my Retro Zig-Zag 89a Orange Plus
idk why you would want a hard slolom shaped wheel, you could get a wheel in a lower duro that is more comfortable to ride on, and it will slide better

how do they feel comfort wise?? iv been looking at 86a BigZigs but am worried they will be too hard and have a crap ride, im at 210 though
i have 86a durians which ride and slide like butter, anyone know if the 86a BigZigs are similar?

if your getting bigzigs, your getting for grip not slide, so go with pink lime or lemon anything above that is pointless imo for big zigs

Re: I love my Retro Zig-Zag 89a Orange Plus
I'd probably get retro thane if I wanted wheels that lasted forever, because Reflex lasts forever...
and as for the slalom shaped wheel, I prefer my InHeats than my friend's stimulus because of the lipped shape because it adds a tad more wanted grip for whewn i'm not going sideways.
These actually do sound nice since they will slide asily and last forever, I jsut don't know if they'll be chattery or not. My lemons were nice for straight dh becaue they were drifty, but the drift was really choppy.

I got the wheels because they have an insane amount of grip, but slide smoothly when sideways. I don't always use them for sliding (just when I need to), and that's definitely not why I bought them; that's what the free-rides are for.

They're comfortable, but, I am not picky about the ride over terrain. After skating for so long on tiny, 100a skateboard wheels, everything feels great. I don't notice much of a difference between my brothers 80a venoms and my 89a zigs. There is a feelable difference, but as soon as I start skating that leaves my mind and it all feels the same. I'm sort of desensitized.

The 89a have a ton of grip, so why is it pointless? If notthing else, I would vouch for the amount of hold they have on the ground. They obviously have less grip than the softer duro, that's just science, but they still grip ridiculously with my weight on them. I've never felt a problem with them slipping out at a bad time.

Re: I love my Retro Zig-Zag 89a Orange Plus
well obviously they will grip, but if your getting a wheel that you want to grip and slide why not durians or flashbacks? its just i dont see the point of getting a hard duro in a wheel ment for grip, why not get lower duro ones for better grip?

Ok why don't you tell me what wheels to get because it's totally not my preference or anything.
Lower duro wheels lose more speed in slides. They're just different than higher duro wheels, obviously. Everything has a compromise.

you can also get slide a's or you can just use your 58mm bones wheels for sliding, the bones are made for street and not tech sliding but its what you have, have you thought that if you want a wheel that has grip and slides, the flashbacks and durians obviosly have less grip that the bigzigs so you will have great grip and great slide its kinda comon sense dude

square lipped= grip
zigs are square lip, so they are grippy, but the high duro defeats the purpose
if you want slide and grip why not get some round lip wheels in low duro or wheels with out thin flexible lips?
i just dont understand the point, its all prefrence but still

if you want a wheel with a good grip and slide compaired to a soft, round lipped wheel well
one it might not slide AS well and too what if you want more grip? if you get round lipped wheels and want more and more grip then you would have to keep going down in duros as with the orange bigzigs, its kind of a "do-it-all" wheel more grip than a round lipped wheel, and more slide than a softer duro even with lips imo i have had lebedas (soft, round lipped) in 80a and some 80a 4prez.. i used the 4prex for sliding more because even though their the same duro the 4prez were more controllable and hooked up better than the lebedas

Because some people like high duro wheels with square lips because it feels different.,

i cant stand riding regular skateboard wheels on pavement. before i had more than one board id take my buddy with me sliding and cruising around and all i had was a longboard and a shortboard and if i got stuck riding the shortboard it was hell, doing like 2 miles on a 50mm 100a wheels, ####### murder on your feet. but if they arent too bad i think ill try a set of the 86a BigZigs, i have a set of 80a Limes coming in maybe next term ill hit up MHS for a set of the Oranges.
And seriously some people need to chill out, the guy has his preferences. No need to flame him for liking a different feel of wheel than what you prefer
