Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
VXB bearings on eBay. I have 6 different sets of them and they are all awesome especially because I didn't pay more than $4 for each set including shipping! They are all ABEC 7's and have dual removable shields. I clean them and re lube them every once in a while and they are still rolling strong even after sliding abuse etc. Just type VXB skateboard bearings on eBay and sort results to view lowest price first. He always has sets of ABEC7's that end at crazy times like 3 am, but if you stay up and bid it you can snag em cheap! Also for $17 I just got a set of basically ceramic Biltins from VXB as someone else on here said $17 and they are so sweet!

Don't post in threads you aren't going to read. Reds were mentioned several times but many different people came on and offered alternatives that were better and cheaper. Thanks for the useless post.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
Could someone who has tried both of these bearings help me pick from those on MHS's site?
Their modded biltins for 30 dollars look nice, do they have DUAL rubber seals though?
The wheel first aid kit at only 13 dollars is nice too...
I'm not sure how they compare, I was hoping for some insight from someone who's had them for a while. I'd rather not buy a BUNCH of cheap bearings, I'd like one good set, at least for a while.
I'm thinking either one of these, or a set of Reds Swiss from Ebay because a guy at my local board shop said he rolls twice as far with those bearings in...

Don't listen to your local board shop, what he say is just BS. He'd probably say you roll 10x as far with $120 Bones Swiss ceramics(you don't)
AFAIK, the MHS Biltins have the single metal shield replaced with a single rubber shield, which does a much better job of keeping crap out of the bearings. The key is to keep them clean and well lubed. If you are good with the maintenance, a set of Biltins will last you years.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
Cool, thank you.
I figured what he said was pretty much BS...maybe they roll better than the greaseballs I have but only because mine make noise when they spin. They spin freely and well but I can hear them making little tiny noises. I cleaned them incorrectly too so I'm just going to get new bearings and not take risks.
Do bearings with only one shield need more maintenance? Or are they easier to maintain because you don't have to remove the outer shield?
I'd get the cheaper bearings but the fact they sell them in BULK packs...like 5-10 sets at once, makes me think they wear faster. Maybe that's from sliding though? Like I said I'm new at this.

One shield makes them easier to maintain, and has no effect on how often you need to clean them, as the part that's not shielded/sealed is inside the wheel hub and therefore almost 100% dirt-proof (unless there's dirt in there before you put the bearings in).

Sounds great! The price kinda stinks but if it's worth it over their in-house 9 dollar bearing set...might as well. At this price I'm tempted to buy bones swiss on eBay though... but I don't know.
Too bad they don't let you package the biltins with new wheels, save a few dollars.

MHS regular bearings are great. Get them with some spacers and they will last. I have them in my DH setup currently and they're smooth, fast, and quiet.
Bilitins, however, are my favorite bearings hands down and with the rubber seal added it just makes them that much better. The advantage of bilitins are these: very easy to clean and maintain; durability; the ability to crank your axel nuts to full tightness without restricting the spin of the bearings meaning a more even spin and no slop (often times an issue with a standard bearing); and the ease of switching wheels since you don't have to bother with speed rings.
So weigh the pros and cons to your specific needs. If you don't care too much about the specifics, just go with the regular bearings. They're great. However, if you've got the cash and want something that is a step up in terms of design, go with the biltin option. Personally, if I had the cash I would order biltins for all 6 of my boards.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
Thanks SloFlo, especially for the pros of each bearing. I have some cash and I think it would be well spent on the biltins.
Have you tried bones swiss, super swiss, or labyrinths? They're in the same price range if you get them on ebay..thought it might be good to ask since they're 20-30 dollars more than biltins normally...
Although, I have a feeling maybe it's just the brand name you're paying for... They don't have the nice built-in spacers and speed rings though. Hmmmmmm.

They do not need more maintenance you just put the side with out he shield inside the wheel.

Also in My experience my $3.00 set of VXB roll just as good as my bones swiss, and vxb sells in bulk.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
PLEASURE TOOL ABEC 3's (with seals, not sheilds)
Pleasure Tool Bearings for skates and skateboards
$4.50 per set.. buy a couple sets cause shipping is flat like $4 or $6
No difference between the abec 3/5/7's IMO - the sealed 3's are all I ride/race.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
You cant go wrong with Mile High Skates bearings man. They're like $8.50 a set, but super high quality. I cleaned my first set one afternoon because i was bored, not because they needed it...after nearly a year of use!
I swear by 'em.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
my vxb hybrid ceramic bearings that i got from ebay for like 17 bucks are running great. a lot like the biltin with the extended inner race but i think biltins still take the cake. but thats if you get picky. has anybody tried the like meeeeeeega cheap vxb bearings? i've been wondering if its worth it to buy a big bulk of them for just extra bearings to have so i'll never be stuck without a set.

Re: Where to buy cheap decent bearings.
I bough the cheapest VXB's with rubber seals last year and they're decent, great to have around and just toss them after rain riding or when they seize. Next year I'll spend the extra $10 and get the ones with nylon ball cages though, they don't rust as fast. I'm speaking of the 100-bearings sets.
