Wheels for First Board!!

hello everybody. So, im getting my frist board soon, a loaded vanguard Flex 4 (38"). Im not sure which wheels to get, however; the orangantang Durians, 4president, or stimulus. I was wondering if someone can recommend a pair for me as well as explain how the size and softness affect the overall ride experience. Also, what does 80a, 83a, 86a mean and what is the difference?

I am a first year post high school student, attending college next year. Currently, i am spending the year in israel where there is bountiful fresh new concrete.

Do you want to slide or not. The higher the a rating the harder and less grippy the wheel is. I would suggest getting some Retro 70mm 83a zigzags. Jew crew 4 life by the way. I took a trip their in the 11th grade.

i'm gonna have to second on the zigs. i've never ridden the yellow, but i've got some limes. but if you want some grip and slide, I'd go with otangs 4 prez 80a or 83a. Zigzags are made for grip to carve.

well if your looking at the orangatang wheels you listed, the 4 president ones are gonna give you a nice grippy wheel cuz they have a lip on em, and will slide a bit after you break em in. the durians are gonna be grippy, but not as grippy as the 4 prez, but i would get the durians, and they "slide out of the box" cuz they have a pre ground contact patch. the durian and stimulus wheels are the same basic wheel, the durian is just bigger, i would reccomend the durians.

btw idk if you know this

yea broski. during yom kippur there is no better place to board in the word. That's the holiday where 7 million people dont use their cars, meaning all the streets are completely empty. All you gotta do is go to jerusalem (which is in a relatively mountainous area) and you got urself about 4 miles of a comft downhill in in the holiest city in the word, with the most gorgeous views.

israel is awesome

as for wheels, the durians and stimulus are the exact same wheel, just different sizes. The higher the durometer rating, the harder the wheel will be and the easier it will slide.

i had a vanguard and i would recomend a square lipped wheel, such as zigs or the 4pres... they will break in and you will still be able to slide... but the vanguard is a carvy board.. lipped wheels will let it carve harder. If i were you, i would go with lime or lemon big zigs (75mm), or the purple (83a) 4pres or in heats (75mm). i like the feel of a larger wheel.

I went on birthright 2 summers ago. Best experience of my life. I cant wait to go back. next time i will be sure to bring a skateboard haha

BTW Tel Aviv I think has better hills. Comparable a lot of ways to San Franciso. Plus, there is more tolerance to skaters. In Jerusaem the Hasidim don't really like skaters. Still better than the old man army in the states though.
