Five pack all the way. I have three sets of MHS bearings and I love them. Greatest bang for your buck I've found so far, as far as bearings go.

Seconded. I haven't bothered cleaning mine all winter. I figure if they're toast when the weather gets nice again, it'll cost me less to get now ones than it would have in lube and isopropyl cleaning every 2 weeks all winter. And honestly, I can't tell the difference between them and my Bones Swiss unless I'm at speed...and even then, I'd be hard pressed to tell 'em apart

P.S. Please don't jump on me for not being as discriminating about my bearings as you. I also can't tell the difference between lossless and 240k audio files.
    Yup...I gots me some longboards.

I can tell the difference between lossless and 256k files. I can also tell the difference between MHS bearings and Bones Swiss.

    MHS is better.

I've yet to try a set of Biltins, but I have tried VXBs, Bones Reds, and Bones Swiss.
The VXBs developed a lot of play over time (the outer race "wiggles" a lot).
The Reds got dirty really fast, and also developed quite a bit of play.
The Bones Swiss developed less play, but still got dirty just as fast.

My MHS bearings are 3 months old. They still haven't gotten dirty enough to need to clean, and have almost no play.

I've also recently come into possession of an old set of MHS bearings off of BAUER's old Eel. They were noticeably abused, with some shields badly dented and very dirty. I took out the dented shields, cleaned them, re-lubed them, and they roll perfectly smooth. There's some play now, as expected, but nothing worth complaining about.
