Well...they are called the LIP BOMB which refers to park skating.
    Not for downhill.

Like many guys here, I remember seeing that ad when it came out.

I really miss that kind of advertising. It actually gives you a good look at at product and tells you a little about it, rather than just a cool attitude ad. Remember when most ads were like that?

Remember those killer Kryptonics ads they used to do?

    Bob:

I have to agree with you - remember the ads appearing in the magazines when I was a kid.

    Seems like yesterday

Now that I look at that Lip Bombs ad, it looks like kind of a stab at the Krypto ads, eh?

What do you guys think. Of course I never thought of it as a kid, but it totally looks like them.

I think that once the Krypts came out everyone was gunning for them. Before they were out wheels really didn't even address the durometer much. You bought the shape. Well I remember Tunnel Rocks were always considered hard but that's about it.

Then Kryptonics came out and all of a sudden you could pick durometer too. I bought the very first version of reds. I remember putting them on my 36" Sims Pure Juice solid ash and taking a push and it blew me away. Of course by the end of the week there wasn't anything left of them. Huge chunks would come out of them by just looking at them. But they still were revolutionary.

Ad's like this one were very interesting for the "gear heads." The early Powell-Peralta ads merged personality and product shots, but the Alva ads really marked the change in emphasis from product to persona.

since I'm a gearheard I'd much rather see these types of ads. nowadays you have to put on your BS glasses just to cut through all the crap that's being spewed out from the pages of most skate magazines. I look to my skate mags just as I look to a car magazine. I want to know what's out there so I can do some research and maybe find something that suits my riding style. If I want help with fashion, I'll ask the boss (the misses).

your right there...those changed alot....they brought early "branding" of skaters. "buy this board....be cool like Tony"

It's interesting to look at the ads in Concrete Wave now. There's some gear-head stuff, some mellow/stoke ads, and even some personality/image-related ads. With so much immediate-and-direct feedback available on the 'net, I often wonder about the necessity of print advertising anymore.
