Default why the **** won't my wheels free spin?

i just got a new pair of bones reds, thinking my bearings was the problem before, i put them in and tried to spin my wheel, to see that it spins for a good 3 seconds... WHAT THE ****
i have spacers in so it's not like im putting on my wheels too tight. HELP.

    edit*
Ok, i loosened it a little and now im getting 35-45 seconds. but still, I've seen videos for like 3 minutes, and mine are brand new.. Also shouldnt the tightening not matter since i have spacers in...

Ignore free spin. How long a bearing spins with no weight on the board means nothing. How the bearings perform under the load of the rider is what matters.

do you have speed rings on both sides of the wheel?

it could be that you have aluminum spacers, and you squished them by tightening the bold too tight.

also check to see if you bent your shields in.

Free spin doesnt really matter, but they should still spin for a bit. 3 seconds sounds like something is rubbing where it shouldnt be.

Shield's aren't bent in, the bearings are brand new. Also when my wheel spins it sounds like something is moving, is the spacer supose to fit snugged or loosely?

With the axle nut tightened properly, the spacer shouldn't move.

Check that the bearings are completely seated in the wheels.

Also, new bearings need some time to break in before they'll spin freely.

Well I can't push the bearings in all the way with my hands, when i tighten the bolt they get pushed in though, so im just pushing them as far as they can go then loosening the wheel a little.

30-45 seconds is really all you should get out of a free spin unless you're using brand new swiss bearings with a huge wheel. and it would seem you did have them tightened on a little too tight.

your bearings will never be faster than when you first take them out of the box, but they may not feel this way because they take a while to settle perfectly flush into the wheel hub, no matter how precise your loading method is. also, you have to "break them in". go bust a few slides, carve around a lot, the races have to settle to. sliding, tricks, and skating in general is hell on a new set of bearings. that thing you hear that sounds akin to something moving around inside is likely inconsistent wear on the races. just go ride it around until it stops. ride more, think less.

your truck mounting hardware might be a tad loose too, that makes the world's most obnoxious noise. next to in laws and crying babies.

Tightening the axle nut to seat the bearings is a good way to frack your bearings.

Lay the board on its side.
Remove all hardware from the axle that's sticking up.
Slide on a speed ring, and two bearings.
Slide a wheel onto the bearings.
Hold the wheel with both hands and press down HARD.
Remove the wheel from the axle.
Leave the other bearing on the axle, and slide a bearing spacer on the axle.

Thread the axle nut onto the axle, and tighten.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand mark ninja'd me
Note: this is excluding bearing spacers and speed rings because I can't be fucked to take them out of my board(s). So you get the equipment that is lying around (read: S8's and Nineballs)

Step 1: Put both bearings on the axle.

Step 2: Slide the wheel onto the axle.

Step 3: Push wheel against the hangar as hard as you can.

Step 4: Flip wheel, and push it onto the other bearing

Congratulations, you've managed to install bearings into one wheel.

My wheels free spin for about 10 seconds. Are you using both bearing spacers and speed rings? There should be no side to side slop in your wheel once they are mounted.

My MHS bearings spin for about 5-6 seconds, but they are still faster than all my others. WHen they were new they spun for about 2-3 seconds. Break your bearings in and see if anything changes

do you have steel or nylon spacers? because its easy to over tighten the nylon spacers and mushroom the ends slightly. that will make it not spin good.

now what good would a nylon spacer do? Wouldn't they just get compressed immediately if you tighten them down?

Not much i've ****ed up alot of em. I bought them on accident in bulk and decided to use them up before buying steel spacers. I ended up just throwing them away though.

Judging from the thickness, I'd say they were aluminum.
