?????
ive noticed that some people say "harder duros are faster than softer duros......"
but from my own personal experience, after riding 75a gummies on my speedboard, then switching to 88a, the 88's are way sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooower compared to the nice soft 75s...... (same bearings too)
same with other wheels i have...the softies are always waaay faster than the harder duros....
so why do people say Harder duros are faster?? makes zero sense to me......

They probably aren't mentioning the road surface they are riding on.
Rough road- soft wheels are faster
Smooth Road- Harder wheels are faster.

Take a few sets of wheels to a very smooth concrete skatepark. You'll notice the hard wheels will have you zooming through your lines while some 78-88a "longboard" wheels will be quite sluggish.

First day I rode park with my 75a noskoolz thinking I was quite the smartypants (softer is faster, atleast I THOUGHT so). So I drop in, and BAAARELY make it up the parellel vert...
everyone laughed..
I think the reason your hard wheels seem slower is a simple question of Rolling Resistance, and Surface Qaulity (I like to capitilize things). But there are disadvantages to the "fast" hard wheels.. All things being equal, an 81a flywheel would have a higher top speed then a 78a one, but I would much rather take a corner on the 78a if given the choice

Yeah, I always thought that the 90a+ wheels would be just as unenjoyable in a skatepark as they are on the streets, I was struggling with my 65mm 85a wheels. While they do make street skating more enjoyable, they aren't very nice on concrete parks.
I have found, that in a park... if you still want the "longboard wheel" type feel with speed AND grip, a hard, but wide wheel is very enjoyable. NoSkoolz = excellent. I've yet to ride my 88a NoSkoolz in the park, I wonder what they'd be like.

No Skoolz are OKAY for park, but g bones kick their ass anyday. Right now I'm rockin Deathbox Airborne Divisions on one board, and the g bones on the other, and I can hit almost every bowl twice. (our park as a clover leaf bowl)

I really like my no-skoolz for skurfn' up the park. I don't do many transition or arial tricks (read: None) so I don't need a super fast wheel. However I do rock the 50 grinds when I can, so speed is definatly a plus for me. I am taking a more banked-slalom focus to my park use so a wheel with a good contact patch is key. I recently went to a park slalom event and was the only one next to the organizer who was able to pump sucessfully (more a skill level thing then an equipment thing), one of the contestants tried to pump up the tranny when he had the classic slalom "back end grip failure" (masonite/wood ramps, concrete floor) and he went flyyyiiiiiing face first into the cones. Luckily I had a set of nizzle-skizzles which helped me get 5th.. not too shabby (most of the contestants were alot younger then me... so its not that cool a story )

..I dont ride the parks..But I can honestly answer my 72a Avia's with Biltin's move pretty fast compared to 83mm or higher Fly's and 77mm Strikers. Then again, I do make MH Mark break-in my Biltin's before he gives them to me.
(He always gives me a bad time about it's all about G-Pymp. Everything he does is for G-Pymp) I better make nice or he will start making fun of my tights again..

I got some 97a's for sliding. I've only really ridden fairly soft wheels before that. I got out of the car and skated down to my house.
Hit a rock and got thrown off my board, like alva in LOD.
I've ridden over sticks, rocks and debris with my softies, no prob.
And the 97a's were too slow on my pavement to even get decent speed for sliding.
I got some 90a's Im gonna try.

unless your park is real rough, 88's are gonna be pretty pokey...
97a and up is really the way to go check out :
Skaterbuilt PSF's
5hitbird wheels
Bones SPF
BDS Black Death
when ya wanna get moving....all of them are scary fast on smooth concrete... anywhere from 58-64mm is fine..
Longboard is not a verb.

I'm with atx on the bones spf. I got the 64mm Bowl Bombers and they are so incredibly fast in the park I hesitate to even think about using another wheel. my Rainskates Hornets are close (65mm, 98a) but the PF and SPF formulas that Bones has just rock.

first time I rode those 64mm PF Powell/Bones wheels, I did the same line i had been doing all day, only I came out of the second pump with speed wobbles and a lot higher than usual... i said "whoa."

same here. I rode them in the new prescott park in their new combi bowl. by my third run I was hitting the coping on this deep pocket they have that's about 11' deep with at least a foot and a half of vert. scared me a bit. wasn't expecting to get that high so easily. whenever I run another setup with slower wheels, I always get much more of a leg workout from trying to pump up to my usual Bones speed.

Of course, you are right. I would not argue with your experience.
But the original poster did not say anything about park skating.
He was talking about his speedboard, so I'm guessing he is reffering
to road riding where softer can indeed be faster.
On super smooth park surfaces harder is much faster.

......
did you miss the part where bpizzle wondered what his 88a Noschoolz would be like in the park? or the 6 other posts before mine mentioning skating parks?
