I've got a 1978 Skateboarder mag with an ad for ice-wheels that are similar to what a pulley wheel would look like if you sharpened the edges and could fit 608 bearings in them. I thought of that immediately, because those are the only ice-intended wheels I can recall ever seeing.

You could take a page from the Mountainbiker's Handbook and install tire studs on a set of hard-duro wheels...

rofl, miniature thane'chainz would be sweet.

Well, maybe with a piece of sheet metal? find a way to fasten it to the wheel, but first punch a lot of "^" shapes or little tabs that you can fold out. for ice anyway. for water. water skis.

    Canuck,

your best bet is to get some rubber wheels, or there are some landyachtz wheels with grooves in them, but they would be only marginally better not much.

Head over to www.Ontariolongboarding.com, theres alot of people still riding around right now, where in ontario are you?

get some crap old wheels and heat up 1/2" nails and push them into the wheel, so only about 1mm sticks out. cover the whole wheel every few mm's. noisy but effective.

There used to be rubber wheels with tread called Xtreme wheels.

They had a website, but I did a google search and can no longer find any
info on them on the web.

Any one else know of these or have any links?

I think they would be good for what you want.

Or buy a mountain board with pneumatic rubber wheels and inner tubes.
Big wheels, optional brakes, bindings for jumping (which can be removed),
big trucks and flexy decks for absorbing landing forces.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!l

you could buy beans xtreme wheels or if you want a brand new set they have them at http://www.rocketboards.net/ they are like $100 or so though. i'd buy a used set to see if you really like them before getting a new set. i bet they work well being made of rubber, more like a grippy car tire.

Right, they have those and then they have some with deep knobby tread
that I think MIGHT work ok for minor snow, watch out on ice no matter what wheels you have.

The ones in the picture are nice for dry or wet paved roads.
They are slower than urethane and allow non pros to bomb steeper
hills than they could on urethane.

That's the theory. I have not tried them.

Airin had two sets of rubber wheels at one point.
She was interested in them for her ranin board.

She had the vikings and maybe the xtremes.

I know she traded or sold at least on set of them,
so I dont remember how positive her review was.

You could search for it. I dont remember anyone trying them in snow.

How bout a mountain board with big tires and a brake for shallow snow use? Would it work?
