    Default CHUB

    News from Chris Chaput
I plan on making a straight cylindical mold that would produce a 78mm wide centerset wheel with a 3.25 inch diameter (82.55mm). This means that you'd have a big fat "chub" of urethane to cut into. You'd be a ble to make the following width wheels from it:

Centerset Wheels: Up to 78mm wide
Sideset Wheels: Up to 52mm wide
Offset Wheels: Anywhere rom 35mm to 75mm wide

The image below compares the 82.55mm "chub" with a 76mm Gumball.

I wonder how they would ride just as the big chub?

Would you cut into them the same way that you would trim a wheel? And how could you get the same exact results for all four wheels ?

You don't need a CNC lathe for that. The "Doublewides" that Chaput raced in Montreal, and racks full of custom-cut wheels in his lab are all hand-cut. This is urethane: we don't need tolerances down in the .001-.003 range...

that is such a great idea, topped only by the name "chubs" I wonder how much they'll cost. That sure is a lot of 'thane he's using on it. (~83x78mm) same as 90mm flys (~$20 each)? or for some weird reason will they relatively cheap, like $10 each or something.

i'm already thinking of the weird shapped wheels i could make.. oh the pastabilities.

considering that a set of 97mm flywheels in canada cost about 115 - 135 bucks CDN, i can see these costing waaaay more, cuz of all that thane!
