Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
So I hate to add another thread on wheels.. but I am in need of some new wheels for my 925. As of right now I am torn between 72 mm Abec 11 retro free rides 84a, 75mm Zombie Hawgs 84a, and 70mm Orangatang Stimulus 86a (what I have been riding). I mainly do freeride, some downhill, I have heard good things about these wheels, especially for freeride. I loveeee sliding, big standups colemans whatever. I wanted to post this poll to see if there was anything I was missing by not riding the Hawgs or the Free rides. I can say from experience that I love the Stimulus but I'm still looking to go bigger on my standup slides;maybe these are the best wheels for me.. I don't know. Anyways vote for the wheel of your choiceand add your opinions.
click on all of the boxes to see the options, then unclick them if you don't want to vote for that wheel.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
My suggestion for the 9two5, which I have and will be doing is the Fireball Incendos. I don't like the way stims slide, especially the 86a, too icy. I think the zombies 84a are just as icy. FICKLE WHEELS! lol. They basically do what they want. I also have the freeries, 78a. They slide well but they don't hold as long for me, so I'm getting the incendos cuz they slide well, offer some resistance so you can control, and go forever. Yup.

81a freerides
80a zombies
80a stims
I tried 84a zombies on a 925. Fucking sketchy.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
78/81a freerides.
abec11/retro has 2 urethanes.
classic thane which is really buttery, but doesn't last long- 72a/75a/78a/81a/84a
reflex thane which is really grippy, and lasts long, but has a choppy slide- 77a/80a/83a/86a/89a

Agreed. And if you're into it, they leave some fat thane lines. Unfortunately they wear ridiculously fast.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
Nersh Candies, 80a. They slide beautifully and grip very well. Perfect for a board that can do anything like the 9two5 cause these wheels also so DH weel.
They are centerset, so you can flip them once you start to cone. Also they are 70mm but have a large contact patch.
I like them better than my old durians, and better than my friends hawgs and stimulus.
Just get them.
Also dont question the durometer. 80a slides the best along with the 76a but those wear faster. 78a and 82a are grippier and better for dh.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
that too. i haven't ridden them more than 5 minutes, but half the people i skate with ride them and love them. i do find them a little noisier than say classic thane and race formulas though.

Adrenaline is deafening haha. Other than durians I've never noticed the sound of a wheel being too loud, but mine were just chattery. If you really do some dh I would go with candies.
All of those wheels slide well but you may not feel comfortable going fast on them (especially if its not only in a straight line)

Im a noob, but what are the incendos?
-
Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs

-
Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
anything abec11 classic thane leaves the fattest lines i've seen.
never ridden incendos, but seen lots of bad reviews.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
This is what classic thane leaves after an hour of sliding. I can't even imagaine what a day long sesh in the same area would look like.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
you shoulda seen our slide hill today. 45 min of skating and the whole hill except for the top looked like that. we were both using 78a freerides.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
I like my s9 cs rf's. Awesome wheels. If you're getting abec 11, get classic thane. Retro is a no no.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
All those wheels are way too hard. Just because a wheel is hard doesnt mean its good for freeride. Cult Classics, Metro Motions, Sector 9 Race formulas, Classic thane freerides (78-81a), Abec 11 Flashbacks, Pink Powerballs, Earthwing Floaters etc. You could also try some softer Zombies.

Re: Stimulus vs. Retro Free rides vs. Zombie Hawgs
So far the incendos are awesome for me. I actually have had every single wheel listed and the freerides, once you get used to them slide FOR DAYS! I just used to suck with them but now I freaking love them. I really like white zombies too, they don't slide as buttery as the freerides but they are still great, last longer. I am trying some yellow ones soon. I'm excited

It would look like cored wheels....
Thane lines just mean your wheel is wearing away rapidly haha.
I feel like I dont need others to see the proof of my slides enough for me to buy a wheel that just wastes away so rapidly.
