    Default WD40

would it be smart to spray my bearings with WD-40? would it go faster?
would it **** up my bearings?

from what i heard it isn't a lubricant but a rust remover or something. it also frees rusted bolts

WD40 is kerosene and propellant, with an additive to help disolve rust. Evaporates quickly, and the remaining film is gone in less than a day. Can actually promote rust in metal, when left on raw unpainted metal (like cars, chassis etc.)

if you MUST use an oil for lubing yer moving bits, at least use a good quality turbine oil like ZOOM.

    # The finest all-purpose turbine oil uniquely packaged to reach those hard to get to areas
    # Telescoping spout extends out of the bottle up to 14" long
    # A must for every toolbox
    # Withstands high temperatures

but for the record, i use nothing but a tiny bit of synthetic wheel bearing grease in my bearings. 8)

Are they "Sector 9 bearings"? It could make them better! ho ho!

WD-40 is too light for much use on your bearings, other than as a cleaner. You'll want to rinse those bearings with rubbing alcohol or brake cleaner after you use WD-40, though.

WD 40 really isn't a good idea... will help clean or salvage abused or old bearing and make them usable for a while, but it's a waste otherwise. If you clean with it, you have to use another cleaner to rinse after; and it doesn't leave enough protection to use as a lube (and it attracts moisture). Great for rusty nuts, bad for just about anything else... burns pretty well though.

agian , WD-40 is almost a degreaser. I only use it for whipping my bearing case outside . and i dont spray directly on the shell, but i spray it on a cloth, then whip it.

wd-40 attracts lots of dust, so dont use it on bearings. I use automotive bearing grease. is kinda thick, but after a few runs, the grease works great. and it only costed me 5 dollars CDN.

try using some wd40 on some cheap bearings. after oone riding, u will hear grinding noise, and ur bearing will suck big time.

its high temperature. should work ok if you dont put too much of it.
hose it with some cleaner, dry it and listen for crunchy sounds when you spin it before you grease it up.
i usually just clean it real good and dunk it in oil..

my uncle raced for the local skate team in the 70s and he said right before his turn at slalom, he would spray WD40 in his bearings, race, toss them out.

    wd-40 repels liquids, including lubricant.

In of it self it is not a good lube and prevents lube from doing it's job.

For lube use bones speed cream or rons rocket propellent.

WD-40 is a water discplacer. It shouldn't come anywhere near your bearings. Do a search for bearing cleaning and you will find more than enough info.

I love WD40. It's a miracle in a can. But I wouldn't use it for my bearings. If you look around Rockn Ron has a whole dissertation on why you don't want to use it as a lube (or for cleaning them even).

I'd use a lightweight machine oil (which you can find anywhere) before I used WD40 if you can't find something specific to sealed bearings.

i use wd 40 to clean my bearings, let them dry and then use Bones speed cream... It works well!!

But, then, reading the differents posts, next time, i'll use alcohol after the wd40, to be sure none is left before applying the oil.

When it comes to bearings, just skip the wd 40.

There are better cleaners and wd 40 despite general belief is not really a lube in the way that skaters think of lube.

So use a better cleaner and a better lube, IMO.

I do use wd 40 for cleaning truck parts (mostly on original's) some times.
But not for lube. Original's are lubed with white litium grease.
